GEI’s Southern California offices are seeking highly motivated Watershed/Lake Management professionals to join our team. The role involves project work and technical expertise to deliver projects and grow GEI’s watershed and water quality practice.
Responsibilities
Collaborate with and support senior and staff scientists in environmental monitoring and permitting activities.
Lead and support sediment, water, and biological sample collection.
Operate field equipment such as sediment and water samplers and water quality instruments.
Prepare Work Plans and Quality Assurance Project Plans.
Handle permitting and communication for field sample collection (e.g., CDFW, USFWS).
Maintain boat operations, trailering, and safety protocols.
Manage and analyze field data.
Analyze laboratory results related to chemistry, toxicity, and biological communities.
Prepare reports, maps, data tables, and conduct statistical analyses.
Ensure data and report quality through QA/QC processes.
Engage in technical and scientific writing.
Desired Skills
Project and task management experience.
Support for business development pursuits.
Participation in regional scientific organizations.
Advanced statistical analysis (multivariate), GIS skills.
Knowledge of water quality regulations (e.g., NPDES, TMDLs, SQOs, etc.).
Minimum Qualifications
Expertise in fisheries, aquatic ecology, and related disciplines.
Interest or training in water quality, hydrology, stream restoration, etc.
Detail-oriented with excellent communication skills.
Experience with northern and central California aquatic environments preferred.
6-12 years of relevant consulting experience; 10+ preferred.
Bachelor’s degree in a related field; Master’s or PhD preferred.
