What you’ll do

Develops segments of the Tommy Bahama line each season (color, styling, fabric selection).

Within the Men’s Knits category, design & development of the product in collaboration with the SVP of Design, Design Director & Design Manager.

Research trends and inspiration specific to defined product category to meet the needs of the Tommy Bahama customer.

Regulate the status of artwork through the art department to meet deadlines, coordinating with all participating decision makers.

Attend meetings and collaborate with outside vendors to obtain materials and resources needed for design.

Develop computer coloration and determine fabrication for the defined product category across the garment segment.

Develop sketches for garment styling for the entire product category, or portion as determined by the Design Manager.

Balance workload to ensure successful development of the entire garment category.

Work with Technical Designer and Product Developer to develop initial specifications for new styles and ensure proper fit and measurement accuracy.

Develop artwork, print patterns, yarn dye & graphics in partnership with in-house teams.

Create colorways for print & YD patterns using Ned Graphics.

Create boards and walls for presentation and maintain updates throughout the season.

Travel as necessary to support the design process and interact with customers in stores when needed.

Support merchandising in resolving production problems for current and upcoming seasons.

Check samples for adherence to specs, color, fit, fabric, and construction through production.

Collaborate with merchandising, sales, and retail staff to learn about the Tommy Bahama customer.

Prepare samples and line sheets for sales meetings and maintain wall presentations for product assortment reviews.

Communicate clearly with Art Department and Merchandising; coordinate with internal distribution channels (Retail, E-commerce, Wholesale).

Identify opportunities to improve design processes and contribute to a cohesive, high-quality line.

Remain flexible to take on additional assignments to support the business.

Qualifications

Degree in Fashion Design or equivalent experience.

2-3 years of design experience in an apparel company; Men’s experience highly desired.

Experience with Flex PLM, Ned Graphics, Adobe Creative Cloud and Smartsheet or equivalent.

Experience with the apparel design process from concept to product; sweater experience highly desirable.

Strong understanding of fit and measurement development; ability to oversee artwork through development.
