Subject Matter Expert (SME) & Future Program Faculty – Doctor of Business Administration Program Join to apply for the SME & Future Program Faculty role at Inside Higher Ed. We are seeking experienced Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to contribute to our Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) program through curriculum development and course instruction. SMEs will work collaboratively with our Instructional Design and Development (IDD) team to create high-quality, standardized courses for doctoral-level business practitioners. Selected SMEs may also serve as future program faculty to teach the courses they help develop. Specific Course Expertise
DBA 700 Contemporary Business Theory and Application DBA 701 Applied Research Methods in Business DBA 702 Leadership Theory and Development DBA 703 Financial Resources Management and Strategic Investment DBA 704 Organizational Structures & Systems Thinking DBA 705 Strategic Foresight and Strategy Formation DBA 706 Global Business Environment and Strategy DBA 707 Marketing for Competitive Advantage DBA 708 Human Capital Management DBA 709 Consulting Techniques Key Responsibilities
Collaborative Course Development: Work with the IDD team and Associate Dean of Business in a standards-driven course development process Provide subject matter expertise while adhering to Excelsior's instructional design standards, templates, and workflows Create original content reflecting deep expertise and aligning with learning outcomes Develop comprehensive learning materials including module outcomes, lessons, discussions, activities, assessments, rubrics, and immersive learning experiences Subject Matter Expertise & Content Creation
Contribute specialized knowledge ensuring accuracy, depth, and relevance in your area of expertise Create scalable, clear, and maintainable content suitable for multiple instructors Collaborate with Excelsior's Library and Learning Services to select appropriate supplemental resources Ensure content aligns with current industry best practices and emerging trends Engagement Timeline
14-week development process per course (approximately 100 hours per course) Live, collaborative Zoom meetings during regular business hours (2-4 hours per week) Meet predetermined milestones and deliverables Respond to IDD team communications within 24 hours during business days Future Teaching Opportunities
Potential to serve as course instructor for developed courses Apply doctoral-level pedagogy and adult learning principles Mentor doctoral students in bridging theory and practice Maintain high academic and professional standards in all interactions Required Qualifications
Doctoral degree (PhD, DBA, EdD) required Advanced degree in Business Administration, Management, or related field relevant to specific course expertise required Professional Experience
Minimum 10-15 years of high-level industry experience in senior executive, consulting, or specialized professional roles Demonstrated thought leadership in one or more DBA course areas listed above C-suite executive experience, senior consulting roles, or equivalent strategic leadership positions Proven track record of applying theoretical concepts to solve complex business challenges Educational Experience
Experience working with doctoral students or teaching doctoral-level courses preferred but not required for candidates with exceptional subject matter expertise Understanding of adult learning principles and competency-based education Familiarity with online and hybrid learning environments preferred Commitment to academic rigor and scholarly standards Preferred Qualifications
Current or recent C-suite executive experience Management consulting experience with top-tier firms Published research in peer-reviewed business journals Professional certifications relevant to area of expertise Experience with online and hybrid learning environments Skills & Competencies

Course Development Phase: 14-week development timeline per course Time Commitment: Approximately 100 hours total (about 6-7 hours per week) Synchronous Meetings: 2-4 hours per week via Zoom during regular business hours (9:00 AM–5:00 PM ET) Availability: Consistent availability throughout project timeline with no long-term absences Technology: Computer access for screen sharing and collaboration (camera on strongly preferred) Communication Standards
