The Department of Cell Biology and Neuroscience ( CBN ) at Rutgers University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level to develop an innovative research program focused on age-related neurodegenerative disorders. Areas of interest include but are not limited to the study of misfolded and aggregated proteins as well as cellular resilience to these proteins, cerebrospinal fluid transport systems (i.e., meningeal lymphatic/glymphatic) and/or protein clearance through the various brain borders. Research using human materials or model systems may be appropriate. This position is part of the Addressing Health Equity in Age-related Disorders ( AHEAD ) diversity cluster hire, aimed at addressing health inequities in age-related disorders. The AHEAD cluster will bring together scholars from the School of Engineering, School of Arts and Sciences ( SAS ), and Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences to advance knowledge on neurodegeneration, develop treatments and technologies for better quality of life, and understand health disparities to promote health equity and healthy aging. CBN is part of the Division of Life Sciences ( DLS ) in SAS on the New Brunswick/Piscataway campus, within the New York City-Philadelphia metropolitan region. CBN is home to an interactive, diverse, collegial faculty with broad research interests, including molecular and cellular biology, neurobiology of brain development and degeneration, immunology, and systems neuroscience, with robust opportunities for collaborative interactions nearby. Applicants must hold a Ph.D. and/or M.D. in biological or biomedical sciences and be able to provide evidence of at least three years of postdoctoral training in a field relevant to the position. A strong track record of publication and funding is desirable. The successful candidate is expected to maintain a productive, extramurally funded research program, to train pre- and postdoctoral fellows, and to contribute to the teaching of undergraduate courses in the general fields of cell biology or neuroscience. We particularly seek faculty who can connect with our diverse student population, and applicants are invited to describe cultural competencies and related experience as part of the teaching statement. We encourage applications from women and members of other historically underrepresented communities in the sciences and will evaluate the applicant’s potential to mentor and empower our students.
