Job Summary: A Pre-Doctoral Research Fellow will be trained at the post baccalaureate level as part of a program leading to the award of a Doctor of Philosophy of Science (Ph.D. or Sc.D.) or equivalent research degree program. In collaboration and under the mentorship of the Principal Investigator, a Pre-Doctoral Research Fellow engages in activities that will further his or her professional development.

Job Description:

Essential Responsibilities:

Conducts research under the guidance of the Principal Investigator or designee as part of a degree program. Researches and collects study data through monitoring devices and maintains daily records of methodologies and test results. Under guidance of the Principal Investigator or designee interprets results using statistics and hypothesis testing. Attends Medical Center lectures regarding all safety requirements/conditions. Attends courses, lectures, and conferences to further own knowledge of research. Performs literature searches and library investigations as they relate to the research.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree required. Currently enrolled in a terminal degree program leading to the award of a Doctor of Philosophy of Science PhD, ScD or equivalent(EngD, DNSc, DrPH, DSW), a formally combined MD/PhD program or other professional/clinical and research doctoral (DDS/PhD) 0-1 years related work experience required. Advanced skills with Microsoft applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access and other web-based applications. May produce complex documents, perform analysis and maintain databases.

Independence of Action: Ability to follow precedents and procedures. May set priorities and organize work within general guidelines. Seeks assistance when confronted with difficult and/or unpredictable situations. Work progress is monitored by supervisor/manager. Written Communications: Ability to summarize and communicate in English moderately complex information in varied written formats to internal and external customers. Oral Communications: Ability to comprehend and communicate complex verbal information in English to medical center staff, patients, families and external customers. Knowledge: Ability to demonstrate in-depth knowledge of concepts, practices and policies with the ability to use them in complex varied situations. Team Work: Ability to work collaboratively in small teams to improve the operations of immediate work group by offering ideas, identifying issues, and respecting team members. Customer Service: Ability to provide a high level of customer service to patients, visitors, staff and external customers in a professional, service-oriented, respectful manner using skills in active listening and problem solving. Ability to remain calm in stressful situations.

Physical Nature of the Job:

Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force frequently to move objects. Some elements of the job are sedentary, but the employee will be required to stand for periods of time or move through out the hospital campus
