Overview
E&S Casualty Underwriter (Senior or AVP) at Zurich North America. Zurich is looking to hire an experienced E&S Primary Casualty Underwriter (Senior or AVP) to join the new E&S Primary Casualty team in Chicago, IL; Schaumburg, IL; New York City, NY; or Rocky Hill, CT. The role will be based out of Chicago, Schaumburg, New York City, Dallas, Houston, or Rocky Hill with a hybrid work arrangement and a flexible schedule in coordination with your manager. You will collaborate with national wholesalers to drive growth with a focus on profitability. Zurich E&S operates on a wholesale distribution model; the company emphasizes a product and technology strategy to lead the E&S market in gross written premium, profitability, and employee satisfaction.
Responsibilities
You will develop and maintain relationships with broker partners and customers across industries to support business objectives.
You will leverage casualty underwriting expertise in risk assessment, exposure evaluation, and pricing to generate and maintain a profitable book of new and renewal business.
You will collaborate across units (claims, finance, risk engineering, actuary, technical underwriting) to gain knowledge in a growing and innovative industry.
You will use market-facing, negotiation, and interpersonal skills to grow relationships with preferred distribution partners in an assigned territory.
In the customer experience focus, you will understand risk and offer end-to-end solutions for insurance needs.
You will administer and monitor underwriting rules, guidelines, and applicable laws and rating manuals.
You will work within broad limits and authorities on highly complex assignments.
You may coach and develop junior team members.
Basic Qualifications
Senior level: High School Diploma or Equivalent with 5+ years in underwriting or market-facing roles; or 10+ years in claims or underwriting support; or Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with Associate Degree and 3+ years in underwriting/market-facing; or Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with Associate Degree and 8+ years in claims/underwriting support.
AVP level: High School Diploma or Equivalent with 7+ years in underwriting/market-facing roles; or 14+ years in claims/underwriting support; or Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with Associate Degree and 5+ years in underwriting/market-facing; or Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with Associate Degree and 12+ years in claims/underwriting support.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience in E&S Commercial insurance
Technical knowledge of Primary Casualty Underwriting with E&S
Established wholesale broker relationships (E&S brokers)
Creative problem-solving skills
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Compensation and Benefits The combined salary range for this position is $98,500.00 to $215,000.00. The proposed salary range is for the Senior level ($98,500.00 to $165,000.00) with 15% short-term incentive eligibility and for the AVP level ($130,000.00 to $215,000.00) with 20% short-term incentive eligibility. Compensation varies by location, role, skill set, and experience. Zurich provides a comprehensive benefits package and Total Rewards information is available for more details.
