Structural Engineer Co-Op - Summer 2026 (Jan - May) Burr Ridge, IL Our Structural Engineers are skilled and educated to assess the stability, strength, and rigidity of our client’s physical structures. The BSI Structural Engineering team will analyze the buildings and work with other members of the design team to ensure all structures are secure and up to code. Our team can address any of our client’s civil and structural needs, surrounding any process engineering and design. Our Civil/Structural group has a broad range of experience across all process industries. Capabilities and project experience range from building modifications and upgrades, to new buildings and new plant equipment support systems, to complex structures within an existing manufacturing operating environment. Responsibilities

Assists in gathering field data With supervision, uses design criteria document(s) to meet the project objectives Ensures quality and technical accuracy of assigned deliverables Follows the BSI Standard Operating Procedures and Client Standards With supervision, performs necessary calculations and design effort to prepare deliverables Coordinates work with Designers on a project Meets individual schedule and budget objectives on assigned projects Assists in capital cost estimating Design of structures for steel, concrete, masonry and wood With supervision selects appropriate construction materials With supervision, participates in construction support, startup and commissioning efforts Provides input to identify individual training needs and goals and receives training from others and may attend outside seminars Occasionally interfaces with other design discipline counterparts and project management as needed Learning the role of other disciplines and overall project requirements during the project lifecycle With supervision may participate in multi-discipline squad checks of deliverables before issuance Identifies and communicates scope change for discipline Continually communicates their individual forecasted staffing requirements for their assigned projects Strives to achieve the targeted billability goals for position Provides regular updates of individual marketing resume When requested, provides timely peer feedback to formal performance reviews Requirements

Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Civil, Structural, or Architectural Engineering Completed at least 4 semesters of related engineering courses 1 year or less prior experience Developing written and oral communication skills Ability to manage multiple tasks Strong ability to analyze and critically assess problems Understanding structural engineering concepts and principles Gaining familiarity with all necessary codes, including but not limited to: IBC, ASCE, ACI 318, AISC and NDS Gaining knowledge of construction materials, construction methods and industry standards Gaining structural analysis experience including three-dimensional and solid finite element modeling and analysis Hourly Rate: $17.50 - $22/hr. based on previous experience and college semesters completed Our Values
