Position Description Summary

ABNA is seeking a Vice President of Transportation Engineering to lead project delivery within the highway, bridge, rail, transit, and aviation sectors. This role provides multi-sector leadership to ensure transportation engineering deliverables meet or exceed industry standards for design, safety and functionality. The role is responsible for SME innovation and administration, ensuring compliance with Local, State and Federal regulations, and providing strategic direction to address current and future challenges in a large-scale organization.

Responsibilities

Provide strategic leadership for the design, implementation, and administration of engineering discipline projects and programs.

Drive long-term strategy, growth, and pipeline development of ABNA’s engineering work across planning, design, and program management.

Align internal vision and mission for the engineering discipline with ABNA’s business operations strategy.

Represent ABNA at industry forums and liaison with Federal, State, and Local agencies, clients, and subcontractors.

Develop and maintain high-level business contacts to identify opportunities for ABNA’s engineering services.

Lead large-scale and complex civil engineering projects, ensuring timely and quality delivery.

Oversee project planning, including budget preparation, resource allocation, and performance monitoring.

Oversee technical aspects of contract negotiation, presentations, and meetings.

Promote advanced engineering techniques to deliver future-ready solutions.

Interpret and summarize data to provide engineering and regulatory conclusions.

Pursue and develop business opportunities in infrastructure sectors, securing contracts for large-scale projects.

Lead and contribute to proposals, bids, and client presentations; cross-sell ABNA’s capabilities.

Foster client and stakeholder relationships to enhance ABNA’s reputation and secure repeat business.

Ensure profitable project performance by monitoring hours, expenses, and budgets; drive accountability for financial metrics.

Supervise subcontractors, contract work, and employees to optimize project execution and resource allocation.

Manage performance metrics to keep projects on schedule and within budget; generate revenue targets.

Drive compliance with Federal, State and Local engineering/design/construction laws, codes and regulatory requirements.

Ensure projects maintain necessary certifications, accreditations and client value ratings.

Incorporate ethical decision-making, environmental sustainability, and safety standards in all project phases.

Lead engineering discipline meetings and provide ongoing educational opportunities for staff; mentor managers and staff.

Foster innovation and quality improvement through training and process optimization; develop leadership pipeline.

Requirements Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or closely related discipline.

15+ years of relevant post-education experience in engineering, civil and infrastructure design.

Missouri Professional Engineer license required (multi-state license preferred).

Advanced proficiency with transportation engineering principles, design/build processes, and regulatory compliance.

Extensive proficiency with infrastructure design; knowledge of transportation construction laws and codes.

Experience establishing and managing large discipline-related programs and projects.

Strong leadership and interpersonal skills; ability to interact with all levels of the organization.

Strategic thinking, analytical ability, attention to detail, and prioritization under pressure.

Ability to collaborate with senior management, clients, and staff across structures and hierarchies.

Flexibility to adapt to changing schedules and hours; proficiency with office software and design tools.
