Compassionately facilitates funeral arrangement discussions with deceased next of kin and presides over visitation, funeral, and graveside services in accordance with family’s wishes; company expectations; and local, state, or federal laws. As the licensed Funeral Director, responsible for compliance with all mortuary, health, and vital statistics regulation within the funeral establishment(s).
Responsibilities
Arrangements Conference: receives or initiates contact with the deceased’s next of kin, confirms contact information, discusses needs, schedules appointments, and emails confirmations. May perform removals or transfers, cares for the deceased, and updates removal status in proprietary software.
Greets next of kin, facilitates the Arrangements Conference, discusses needs and desired outcomes, and promotes available services and merchandise (including life insurance, veteran benefits, cemetery, crematory services, catering, flowers, music, and memorial products).
Transitions arrangements to Funeral Services Counselor/Advisor for cemetery property, merchandise options, pricing, and contracts. In some cases may perform FSA/FSC responsibilities.
Reviews and authorizes merchandise and service contract revisions.
Directing Services
Presides as Master of Ceremonies for visitation, funeral, or graveside services in alignment with company standards. Confirms authorization to proceed with service arrangements and ensures casket contents are appropriately handled.
Inspects deceased appearance and communicates concerns to preparation staff; ensures alignment with contractual arrangements and kin expectations; may provide guidance to services team members.
Interacts with families to fulfill death care requests and obtains leads for pre-need services.
Event Planning
Coordinates event planning tasks (music, flowers, catering, memorabilia) and produces memorial products or presentations. Prepares event spaces and handles post-event cleanup and recovery activities.
May perform attendant duties (parking, driving, ushering, pallbearing, courier).
May attend community or charity events to represent the location or market.
General
Works under general guidance; ensures compliance with regulations; collaborates with peers or managers; maintains accountability for behavior.
Proactively discusses assignments and deadlines with management; seeks guidance as needed; adapts to changing requirements. Additional responsibilities as assigned.
Minimum Requirements Education & Licenses
Graduated from an accredited school or college of mortuary science
Current Funeral Director license in the practicing state
Valid state driver’s license with acceptable driving record to operate company vehicles
Experience
Industry experience is preferred
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Reasoning, planning, problem solving, quick learning, and applying knowledge to new situations
Process and results oriented; capable of moving projects forward and removing obstacles
Positive attitude with motivation to advance in the industry; self-motivated
Ability to build professional and trusting business relationships
Professional written and verbal communication skills; public speaking with the ability to influence
Proficient in using databases and MS Office
Work Conditions
Indoor and outdoor environment; seasonal conditions
Professional attire when in contact with families
Posture: periods of sitting or standing; may require stairs
Physical demands: manual dexterity for paperwork, devices, and computers
Ability to push/pull up to 150 pounds; flexible hours including nights and weekends as needed
Pay
$29.00 - $39.00 an hour
