Overview
Sr. Principal Air Vehicle System Test Engineer (Various Int'l Locations) – R10207821-23 at Northrop Grumman. Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for an Air Vehicle System Test Engineer - Engineering Field Service Representative (FSR) to join our Test and Evaluation organization. This role requires 6+ months of training on a Domestic Assignment to Pax River, MD and Rancho Bernardo, CA. After training is completed, deployment to international locations (Japan, Italy, United Arab Emirates, or Guam) for a minimum of 24 months is expected, based on business needs. The international location will be selected by Northrop Grumman after training. If no deployment location is available, relocation to a core U.S. location may occur. Deployment benefits will be communicated once a location is selected. The FSR will be embedded with a US Navy unit and serve as the system subject matter expert, providing training on system hardware and software, and supporting sailors with system operations, troubleshooting and routine maintenance. The Navy expects sailors to be the primary operators and maintainers, with the FSR providing training/assistance to keep the system mission capable. The FSR will have reach-back/liaison support from Northrop Grumman Responsible Engineering/Development/Test Engineering teams. Responsibilities
Interfacing with Northrop Grumman and customer flight engineers, aircraft maintenance technicians, US Navy service members, and subsystem SMEs to sustain operations. Serve as the primary interface between maintenance, design, and flight test engineering. Vehicle and Payload Test Controller (VTC/PTC) operations during aircraft start-up/shut down for launch and recovery, conduct static ground tests, and troubleshooting. Essential Functions
Provide inputs to update Interactive Electronic Technical Manuals (IETMS). Review/provide inputs during engineering development and execute Detailed Test Requirements, Acceptance Test Procedures, and Ground Test Plans. Install, operate, troubleshoot, maintain, repair, and modify equipment in accordance with IETMS and other directives (TDs/ECRs/TEIs/AMRs/MAFs). Perform Organizational/Depot-level maintenance and technical support on products such as equipment, integrated systems and subsystems, and software at customer or field locations. Develop general knowledge of all aircraft systems, VTC/PTC, engineering design and software. Perform field integration, troubleshooting, and repair of air vehicle systems at customer locations, including operations on a flightline or in a hangar. Interpret and trace electrical and air vehicle schematics; perform electrical and RF troubleshooting using equipment such as multimeters, network/spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, TDRs, etc. Review and analyze engineering schematics and supplier design data; support functional test requirements including acceptance, qualification, and system integration on the air vehicle. Basic Qualifications
Bachelor of Science in STEM or related field. 8+ years of engineering experience with a BS, 6 years with MS, or 4 years with PhD in STEM fields. Willingness and ability to complete required training in Pax River, MD and Rancho Bernardo, CA. Willingness to support an international assignment in Japan, Italy, United Arab Emirates, or Guam for a minimum of 24 months; location based on business needs. Willingness to relocate to a core U.S. location if necessary. Ability to pass a new hire physical if required by the company based on location. DoD Secret clearance in-scope or currently enrolled in CE; ability to obtain Top-Secret/SCI clearance in a reasonable time. Ability to obtain and maintain Special Program Access (PAR) within a reasonable time. Experience with Aircraft Ground Test Operations. Strong communication skills and ability to brief test results to senior leadership; working knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Willingness and ability to travel internationally and support customer needs and leadership reviews. Preferred Qualifications
Ability to support new or extended international or Guam assignments after the initial 24 months. Active DoD Top Secret clearance in-scope or CE enrolled. Unmanned Aerial Vehicle test/maintenance experience (MQ-4 Vehicle Test Controller or Triton BETTIE operator preferred). Aircraft Test or Lab Test experience; experience with testing and troubleshooting aircraft systems. Experience loading data and configuration files to aircraft assemblies. Compensation and Benefits
Primary Level Salary Range: $113,500.00 - $170,300.00. The salary range is a general guideline; offers consider scope, responsibilities, candidate experience, education, skills, and market conditions. Benefits include health, life and disability insurance, savings plan, company-paid holidays, and PTO.
