Overview
Lead Public Cloud Windows Engineer in Austin, Texas. The role focuses on advanced technical support, administration, and optimization of managed customer cloud environments across AWS, Azure, Google Cloud Platform (GCP), and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI). Requires deep Windows Server OS expertise, public cloud experience, and a proactive, solution-oriented mindset. The engineer will contribute to automation, incident and change management, and mentor junior team members. Key Responsibilities
Cloud Windows Operations & Support: Provide support for Windows-based systems across on-premises and cloud environments (AWS, Azure, GCP, OCI). Customer self-provisioning: Support cloud instances across AWS, Azure, GCP, and OCI with security guardrails and backend deployment. Incident management: Troubleshoot and resolve incidents, performance issues, and service outages in production and staging Windows environments. Monitoring & reliability: Design and implement system monitoring, alerting, and logging tools to ensure high availability and reliability. Post-incident analysis: Lead root cause analysis and document post-incident reviews for major Windows-related issues. Maintenance: Track and lead patch management, OS upgrades, and regular system maintenance. Backup & disaster recovery: Develop and maintain backup, disaster recovery, and failover strategies for Windows infrastructure. On-call: Participate in on-call rotation and provide after-hours support as needed. Automation & Infrastructure Management
Automation: Design and develop automation scripts using PowerShell, Python, or Ansible to streamline system administration tasks. Configuration management: Manage infrastructure using tools like Ansible, DSC, or Azure Automation. Infrastructure as Code: Maintain IaC templates using Terraform, CloudFormation, ARM, or OCI Resource Manager (a plus). Optimization: Recommend and implement system optimization strategies for performance and resource utilization. Security & Compliance
Security practices: Propose and enforce Windows system security best practices, including access control, encryption, and secure configurations. Identity & policy management: Manage user access, GPOs, and Active Directory policies in line with IAM standards. Vulnerability management: Identify and remediate security vulnerabilities from scanning tools or advisories. Compliance: Support initiatives by maintaining secure and auditable Windows environments. Collaboration & Documentation
Collaborate with application, security, and network teams for solution delivery and support. Mentoring: Guide junior engineers and provide technical guidance. Documentation: Create and update technical documentation, runbooks, and SOPs. Client interactions: Participate in client calls to provide technical input as required. Education & Certifications
Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) in Computer Science, IT, Engineering, or a related field. At least two of the following certifications (or equivalent experience): Microsoft Certified: Windows Server Hybrid Administrator Associate Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate AWS Certified Solutions Architect / SysOps Administrator Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate or Solutions Architect Expert Google Professional Cloud Architect / Engineer Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Architect Associate/Professional (Preferred) ITIL Foundation or other support framework knowledge. Required Experience: Primary: Windows Secondary: AWS/AZ/GCP/OCI 10+ years of hands-on experience in cloud Windows engineering and operations in a 24x7 production support model 5+ years multi-cloud experience (hands-on in at least 4 of AWS/Azure/GCP/OCI; familiarity in all is preferred) Senior & Preferred Qualifications
Direct experience in managed services/NOC/SOC/MSP environments is a plus. Expertise in provisioning, configuring, securing, supporting, and optimizing Windows Server systems (2012/2016/2019/2022). Experience optimizing cloud-native and hybrid workloads across AWS, Azure, GCP, and/or OCI. Strong experience managing compute, storage, networking, and system services on Windows. Proficient in scripting (PowerShell, Python) for automation. Experience with ServiceNow ITSM for incident, change, and problem management. Understanding of Windows backup, disaster recovery, and high-availability configurations (e.g., Failover Clustering, DFS, Hyper-V Replica). Familiarity with security tools (Windows Defender, BitLocker, auditing policies). Experience with vulnerability assessment and patch management (WSUS, SCCM, Qualys). Proficient in log analysis and monitoring tools (Event Viewer, SCOM, Nagios, Grafana). Knowledge of endpoint protection and threat detection tools (CrowdStrike, Defender for Endpoint). Strong understanding of AD, GPOs, user access control, and secure file transfer protocols. Ability to troubleshoot Windows services (IIS, SQL Server, DNS, DHCP, SMB).
