Overview
Reporting to the Manager of the Small Business Loan Center (SBLC), the incumbent is responsible for the day-to-day functions of the underwriting segment within the SBLC. Supervises the team as it relates to analyzing, reviewing and approving credit risk in both existing and potential new small business loan relationships. Provides training and technical expertise to SBLC staff. Responsible for interpreting, clarifying, developing and implementing department procedures. Promotes a highly responsive, customer-focused environment for internal and external clients.
Essential Functions
Oversees day‑to‑day operations of the SBLC underwriting team.
Exhibits independent decision making relative to all SBLC loan decisions.
Distributes applications for credit to SBLC underwriting team and manages the process to ensure timely decisioning.
Uses commercial credit scoring models and prudent judgment to make recommendations on loan structure, collateralization, risk rating, and overall creditworthiness to facilitate lending decisions.
Provides/assists in training of Business Banking Officers (BBO), branch managers or market managers in loan submission and decision parameters.
Interacts with BBOs, branch managers or market managers to convey findings and recommendations to finalize loan structure and generate high-quality commercial loan assets.
Assists the Manager of the SBLC in credit reporting including ALLL methodology, portfolio stratification, and risk analysis.
May assist with administrative functions of the department during peak demand or as requested by the SBLC Manager.
Dimensions Function in a high-volume environment with twenty applications or more weekly and a loan range of $10,000 to $1,000,000 in aggregate bank exposure.
Principal Accountabilities
Supervisory: Manage daily operations, workload distribution and issue resolution. Collaborate with the SBLC Manager on performance assessments and decisions related to staff changes.
Loan Origination/Underwriting: Commit to and work toward timely decisions on each loan submitted after receipt of a complete application.
Loan Approval Authority: Authorized to approve loans up to $500,000 based on experience, proven prudent credit decisions, and sound judgment.
Portfolio Management: Assist in evaluating the SBLC loan portfolio and determining risk characteristics.
Product Support: Provide excellent product support to customers and internal stakeholders, including inquiries or intra-bank training.

Minimum Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Business or related field, or equivalent professional work experience.
Three to five years of credit underwriting experience with a focus on small business lending.
Strong customer service and both verbal and written communication skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
Preferred Knowledge/Skills
Prior experience with SageWorks/Abrigo suite of products.
Prior experience in SBA lending.
Prior experience with ETRAN and other SBA-related platforms.
Prior experience supervising direct reports.
