As a senior member of the university’s leadership team, you will work to foster a culture of high quality and high-impact research and scholarship. You will report directly to the Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost and are expected to communicate effectively with the Offices of the President and Provost, and to collaborate with vice presidents, deans, center/institute directors, and other campus leaders across disciplines. Duties/Responsibilities
Assemble a strong leadership team by appointing associate and assistant vice presidents to adapt to near-future vacancies. Improve staff morale and trust through improved communication with faculty and staff in the Office of Research and across campus. Develop and implement unit-specific strategies to grow federally funded research toward the university’s goal of increasing federal funding by $100M over the 2021 benchmark. Support faculty in attracting large-scale grants, including training and multi-institution grants; connect with federal agencies, foundations, and industry partners; encourage multidisciplinary projects and targeted cluster hires. Foster collaboration across disciplines and align research activities with the university’s strategic goals. Lead research initiatives to be launched in coming years. Renew and strengthen the Office of Research infrastructure to provide effective administrative support for research; ensure compliance with policies on research, commercialization, patent activity, and tech transfer. Champion UGA research across state, nationally, and internationally before funding agencies, state leaders, and other stakeholders. Partner with the Honors College and Graduate School to support undergraduate and graduate research. Develop and promote policies and programs that support recruitment, professional growth, and national/international engagement; nominate faculty for awards. Provide sound stewardship of budgets from UGA, UGARF, and UGAF sources. Submit and obtain any required Personnel Security Clearance and Facility Security Clearance as applicable.
