The Director of Government Relations & Strategic Initiatives is a senior leader responsible for advancing Met Council’s mission through advocacy, policy development, and special projects. The role involves legislative monitoring, relationship-building, lobbying, cross-functional initiative management, and grassroots/donor mobilization. The Director acts as the primary liaison to city, state, and federal officials, orchestrating campaigns to secure resources, influence policy, and enhance impact on poverty and the Jewish community. Key Competencies
Proven experience in coalition-building, securing public funding, and legislative advocacy. Ability to lead teams, manage projects, and meet deadlines. Excellent communication skills for diverse audiences. Strong analytical, negotiation, and data-driven decision-making skills. Commitment to fighting poverty and supporting the Jewish community. Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Public Policy, Political Science, Communications, or related field (Master’s/JD preferred). 7+ years in government relations, policy advocacy, or strategic initiatives, including lobbying experience. Existing relationships within New York City and State government. Knowledge of human-services funding and compliance. Media-savvy; bilingual skills in Hebrew, Russian, Chinese, or Spanish are a plus. Collaborative, entrepreneurial, and adaptable in a fast-paced environment. Compensation & Benefits
Salary: $105,000 - $120,000 annually. Benefits include major medical, dental, vision, life insurance, pre-tax commuter benefits, FSA, 403(b) with employer contributions, and generous leave policies. Additional Details
