Overview
Public/Government Affairs Director role at The Estée Lauder Companies Inc. The Global Public Affairs function enables The Estée Lauder Companies to understand, anticipate, and manage the global political environment in which it does business. The Global Public Affairs team builds relationships with key external stakeholders (governments, regulators, NGOs, communities and trade associations) and develops strategies to leverage business opportunities, mitigate risk, and advance the company’s interests. The role partners with internal colleagues and consultants to execute the United States Public Affairs strategy with a focus on state and local governments in North America. Position Description
The Director, Global Public Affairs will partner with the Executive Director, Global Public Affairs to develop and execute the United States Public Affairs strategy with a focus on state and local governments to advance The Estée Lauder Companies’ position and business interests in the North America region. This role will provide counsel and insights to inform the development of U.S. state and local public policy, corporate policy and business strategies. The ideal candidate is an entrepreneurial self-starter with substance expertise and strong project management skills. This role requires understanding the political, social, and economic landscape of the region. Key Responsibilities
Monitor policy trends and developments in the United States, with a focus on state and local governments, relevant to the company’s business priorities and operations. Represent The Estée Lauder Companies with institutional and other external stakeholders. Lead and/or contribute to industry discussions and positions in trade associations in which the company is involved. Lead analysis and assessment of potential implications of upcoming U.S. state and local legislation or policy to identify risks and opportunities to inform the company’s position and actions. Proactively inform Senior Management and other department leaders of the impact of relevant policy actions and decisions. Provide subject matter expertise to internal colleagues in legal, regulatory, communications, citizenship & sustainability, supply chain and R&D. Oversee consultant and lobbyist relationships to ensure deliverables are met within agreed timeframes and budgets. Candidate Profile
8+ years of public relations, public affairs, or communications experience, preferably in a multi-branded consumer goods company or another industry with high-profile consumer brands or government experience. Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree in public relations, political science, international affairs or communications strongly preferred. Strong communicator with the ability to convey technical information. Strategic, independent, self-starter and team player attitude. Strong organizational, project management and problem-solving skills. Strong knowledge of local and state public policy, legislative, and regulatory processes (NY and/or CA preferred). Fluent in written and spoken English. Highly analytical, able to synthesize information and offer recommendations/solutions. Ability to balance multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Track record in managing multiple processes and projects through collaborative relationships. Excellent writing skills and ability to produce summaries and briefing memos on tight deadlines. Professional maturity in challenging situations/dynamics. Salary and Benefits
The anticipated base salary range for this position is $170,000.00 to $200,000.00. Exact salary depends on factors such as experience, skills, education, and location. Salary range may vary by geographic location. Eligible for participation in a performance bonus program with potential for overachievement.
