Wright Brothers Construction Company, Inc. is searching for a Senior Roadway Estimator with experience working on-site in heavy civil construction for our operations in Charleston, TN. The Senior Roadway Estimator position is responsible for estimating costs of time and materials related to roadway elements (earthwork, erosion control, storm drainage, utilities, maintenance of traffic, etc.) on highway and heavy civil construction projects. SENIOR ROADWAY ESTIMATOR RESPONSIBILITIES: Research prospective project opportunities to bid. Develop the bid strategies. Knowledge of the work they are bidding on and have an ability to interpret and schedule the work. Obtain required Bid Bonds. Obtain quotes on specialty insurance and bonds. Perform a scope analysis, including quantity takeoffs. Technical competency in reviewing plans and specs, including the ability to analyze quantities for overruns and underruns. Understand HCSS Heavy Bid and its functions. Understand crew composition, equipment selection, production, material requirements, including waste/yield, and subcontractor support. Solicit and negotiate with material suppliers and subcontractors, including potential DBE/SBE. Coordination of all scopes of work within a project For quotes and private bid submissions, prepare scope letters with clarifications and a schedule of values. Electronic bid submission – be able to upload DOT bids through AASHTOWare and other electronic submission software, completing all requirements, including applicable DBE submissions. Paper bid submission – Understand local requirements and complete all bid documents. Analyze bid results. Assist with subcontractor and material supplier selection, including DBE/SBE Complete any relevant owner/DOT award paperwork. Set up the project budget in Viewpoint Write subcontracts and major purchase orders in Viewpoint. Prepare the project for handoff to the Project Team. SENIOR ROADWAY ESTIMATOR REQUIREMENTS: A bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, construction management, or a similar related field. Past field experience helpful. Minimum 5-10 years of experience in construction estimating, with a focus on roadway, highway, and civil projects. Must be proficient in Office programs such as Outlook, Word, Excel, OneNote, Teams, and PowerPoint. Experience using HCSS Heavy Job, AutoCAD, and Viewpoint software is a plus. Read and write accurately to complete documentation. Attention to detail is critical. Read, hear, and understand written and verbal instructions. Work long shifts with non-standard break times. Work at heights of up to 100’ or more. Work in enclosed spaces. Walk moderate distances to reach the work area (1/2 mile or more). Wear a hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, and safety-toed boots. The employee may occasionally lift and move items over 50 pounds. Valid driver’s license and a safe driving record. Able to pass a pre-employment drug screen and physical. Perform other job-specific duties as requested by the supervisor.
