The AVP, Accounting Policy leads technical accounting research, analysis, and documentation for key enterprise initiatives, including M&A, reinsurance, and complex investment transactions. This role partners with senior leadership and cross-functional teams across Accounting, Actuarial, Legal, and Investments to interpret and implement new standards, resolve technical accounting matters, and ensure compliance with GAAP and Statutory Accounting. Serving as a trusted advisor to leadership and a liaison to internal and external auditors, the AVP provides expertise that supports both regulatory compliance and the company's strategic growth. Here's a glimpse of your responsibilities and the meaningful impact you'll create as the AVP, Accounting Policy: Provide technical accounting expertise on complex transactions, including M&A, reinsurance, and investment activities. Lead research and documentation of accounting policies, preparing clear technical memos and guidance for senior leadership and cross-functional teams. Monitor and implement new accounting standards and regulations, ensuring accurate application and compliance across the enterprise. Partner with Finance, Investments, Legal, Actuarial, and other teams to evaluate strategic initiatives and ensure proper accounting treatment. Support financial reporting accuracy and disclosures, and serve as a key contact for internal and external auditors on technical matters. Advise senior management on the implications of emerging accounting issues and regulatory changes. Provide leadership, mentorship, and guidance to team members, fostering collaboration, professional growth, and alignment on accounting practices. What Sets You Up For Success
Bachelor's degree in Accounting; CPA required. 7--10+ years of technical accounting experience with deep expertise in GAAP and Statutory Accounting; insurance industry background strongly preferred. Proven ability to research, interpret, and apply complex accounting standards and to communicate findings through clear, well-structured documentation. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a high attention to detail. Skilled communicator with the ability to convey complex concepts effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.
