Serve as credit and lending subject matter expert for High Net Worth (HNW) and Ultra-High Net Worth (UHNW) clients; source, negotiate, structure, and close complex custom (advisory/tailored) credit transactions (including but not limited to custom residential mortgages, real estate-related transactions, marketable securities, concentrated stock, real estate, fine art, yachts, aircraft, hedge fund interests, and General Partner lines). Partner with an integrated Wealth Management team to present Wilmington Trust credit solutions to HNW and UHNW clients and advise on how to structure facilities that work for the client and the Bank. Manage the most complex borrowing relationships by presenting WT credit solutions and advising on implementation; provide guidance to less experienced Advisors on complex transactions for UHNW clients. Originate credit leads from prospects and existing clients and lead credit marketing initiatives for the local market in support of Wealth Advisors; source new business by leveraging internal and external networks. Develop and structure client strategies using leverage to complement business, investment, tax, estate, and legacy plans; deliver customized solutions to meet unique borrowing and lending needs of HNW and UHNW clients. Lead the development of credit approval memos and restructure memos; coordinate with underwriters to implement changes to debt structure/risk ratings in response to market conditions. Collaborate with internal partners in Wealth Management and Commercial Bank to source customized credit solutions; apply knowledge of investment management solutions and planning concepts to identify opportunities and structure requests. Monitor market trends and developments in Wealth Management and Commercial to grow Bank business; maintain a high-quality loan portfolio and profitability. Lead associates on deal analysis, due diligence, and credit presentations; oversee annual reviews, covenant monitoring, delinquencies, and risk ratings. Serve as SME on the most complex transactions for UHNW clients and share knowledge with the team. Ensure accuracy and compliance around all loan closings with Closing and Compliance teams; adhere to risk and regulatory standards and escalate issues as needed. Promote an environment that supports belonging and uphold internal control standards, including responding to audit points and regulator requirements as applicable. Understand and comply with federal registration requirements outlined in the SAFE Act. Complete other related duties as assigned. Education and Experience Required
Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 7 years’ custom credit, lending, and/or Commercial lending experience, or a combined minimum of 11 years’ higher education and/or work experience including at least 7 years’ customer credit experience. Deep expertise in structuring and advising on custom (advisory/tailored) credit; demonstrated success in structuring highly creative and complex credit transactions. Formal credit training or equivalent experience; high level of fluency in wealth management concepts including investment management, trusts, and financial planning. Expert knowledge of complex credit products including residential real estate loans, concentrated collateral loans, unsecured lending, marketable secured lending, aircraft finance, and art lending. Experience monitoring and facilitating transaction closings while maintaining client satisfaction; excellent influencing, negotiation, and presentation skills. Proven ability to interact with diverse internal and external networks; strong diplomacy and interpersonal skills; ability to work in a team environment. Experience working in a wealth management context. Education and Experience Preferred
MBA (Master’s degree in Business Administration). CFP (Certified Financial Planner) and/or CPA (Certified Public Accountant) certification. Background in institutional lending, derivatives, and experience in single stock, Private Equity and Hedge fund lending, margin, and 144 restricted stock. Knowledge of capital markets and macro interest rate environment; familiarity with account maintenance, loan closing, credit administration, and compliance procedures. Ability to communicate sophisticated credit concepts to all levels of clients and prospects; sales experience including profiling, objection handling, negotiation, team selling, closing, and referrals.
