Assistant Nurse Manager - Pre-Op/PACU
Location: UCSF Health – San Francisco, CA (Mission Bay campus). Full Time • Days • 8 hours Job Summary Under general supervision of the OI Nurse Manager and guided by the procedures of the Medical Center, Ambulatory Services and the ASC, the OI Assistant Nurse Manager assists the Nurse Manager in ensuring the quality of patient care in the OI Pre-Op/PACU Areas and OI Periop, and serves as a role model for professional nursing practice. This position is responsible for assisting the nurse manager with all aspects of the operation, including but not limited to recruiting, hiring and training staff; coaching and counseling; performance evaluations; ensuring regulatory and patient safety compliance; developing and implementing policies and procedures; financial and budgetary management (revenue capture and expense control); supporting performance improvement initiatives; and maintaining close working relationships with specialty practices and supportive services to align goals with patient safety and service standards. The position supervises all clinical and clerical staff of the OI Surgery Center and assumes full responsibility for the unit in the absence of the Nurse Manager. The Assistant Nurse Manager is expected to assist at the bedside in clinical settings as needed and collaborates with the POPC Periop management team to provide management coverage along the Out-Patient Surgery continuum. Responsibilities Supervise staff involved in interdisciplinary clinical/nursing care at a clinic/center (e.g., RNs, PCAs). Assist in ensuring quality patient care delivery and serve as a role model for professional nursing practice. Assist with administration and management of personnel, fiscal, and material resources. Recruit, select, hire, train staff; coach and counsel; complete performance evaluations. Ensure compliance with regulatory and patient safety goals; support performance improvement initiatives. Develop and implement policies and procedures to maintain high-quality care. Manage departmental finances, including revenue capture and expense control. Collaborate with specialty practices and supportive services to align goals with patient safety and service standards. Provide coverage at the management level as needed and share staff across the Out-Patient Surgery continuum. Required Qualifications +2 years of nursing experience in Pre-Op/PACU in a dedicated ASC environment, including strong orthopedics experience. A minimum of 2 years of recent leadership experience in an ASC environment. Demonstrated effectiveness as a nursing advocate. Proven team-building experience. Commitment to continuing education and self-development. Knowledge essential to perform duties; ability to supervise clinicians and manage complex workflows in clinic/center settings; strong knowledge of practice operations. Understanding of patient care standards, regulations, and internal policies. Knowledge of human resources management policies; ability to train, monitor, evaluate, and document HR issues and participate in decision-making. Strong analytical and critical thinking skills; ability to analyze problems and implement solutions. Strong interpersonal and communication skills for collaboration with all levels of staff and external partners. Proficiency with business software and data management systems (e.g., MS Word, Excel, Outlook, EPIC).
