The Procurement Team at Georgetown University is seeking a
Procurement Legal Advisor, Construction
to support the Planning and Facilities Management (PFM) Construction Team. The PLA will engage with stakeholders, review and negotiate construction contracts, facilitate procurement for capital projects, and help protect the University from risk. Responsibilities
Provide expert guidance on legally binding agreements to minimize risk and liability in accordance with University policy and audit requirements. Structure, draft, review, and negotiate contractual language, MSAs, and standardized templates; develop and maintain a library of standard agreements and terms. Engage University stakeholders and suppliers to ensure contracts are compliant with University policy and federal/state laws, coordinating with the Office of General Counsel, Risk Management, Tax, Compliance, Planning and Facilities, and Information Services as appropriate. Anticipate and protect the University against legal risks related to construction and other capital projects. Manage all aspects of contract reviews and negotiations for capital projects, including architecture, construction, and other specified commodities. Collaborate with the PFM department to manage capital project budgets. Assist with preparing bids and negotiating specifications for materials, equipment, labor, or other capital-related purchases, securing approvals and ensuring supplier compliance with University procedures. Coordinate with University leadership to plan and facilitate procurement for capital projects and contribute to sourcing and procurement trends and innovations, particularly around legal and contractual matters. Manage day-to-day risk mitigation and implement policies to minimize enterprise risk in contracting practices. Identify creative solutions to challenges in purchasing or general contracting processes, working across the University with leadership and internal clients. Manage, mentor, and coach team members to ensure efficient contract processing and policy compliance. Contract Operations
Oversee daily contract operations for PFM and assigned projects. Manage all aspects of contract reviews and negotiations for capital projects, including architecture, construction, and other specified commodities. Develop and implement a strategic procurement management plan for capital projects, working with Planning, PFM, and the capital project budget team. Identify creative solutions to purchasing or contracting challenges and engage University stakeholders and suppliers to ensure efficient service. Work Interactions
The PLA serves as a liaison between the University and suppliers to meet information and financial needs for contracts. They work with Strategic Sourcing to ensure sourcing is approved before signature and interface with the Office of General Counsel on legal matters when needed. Requirements and Qualifications
A law degree from an ABA-accredited law school (preferred). 2–5 years of experience in construction contract drafting, review, and negotiations. Extensive experience in legal review of contracts. Excellent organizational and communication (interpersonal) skills; legal writing proficiency. Ability to engage in significant customer interaction and demonstrate problem-solving abilities. Adaptability and willingness to be trained on various technology platforms. Proactive, customer-focused mindset with the ability to manage multiple deadlines. Work Mode and Compensation
Work Mode: Hybrid. The salary range is $66,783.00 – $126,720.23; compensation is determined by qualifications, experience, and University needs. Application Notes
