The Sr. Trade Compliance Specialist is responsible for ensuring the efficient, compliant, and cost‑effective movement of goods across domestic and international borders. This role will ensure product compliance to necessary standards through HTS code assignment, FDA documentation, and collaboration with our customs broker and suppliers, while working with internal teams to ensure overall compliance. Beyond customs ownership, this role will support the logistics team to enable seamless supply chain operations and foster a continuous improvement culture. The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of import/export regulations, freight carrier coordination, and trade compliance protocols. Essential Functions And Responsibilities
Ensure compliance with all U.S. and international customs laws, regulations, and trade agreements. Prepare, review, and maintain accurate shipping, customs, and regulatory documentation (e.g., commercial invoices, packing lists, bills of lading, import/export declarations, HTS Codes, COO). Maintain ERP system for all HTS and COO entries for our portfolio. Serve as the primary point of contact for freight forwarders, customs brokers, carriers, suppliers, and internal teams to resolve customs related issues so that shipping delays do not occur. Build relationships with customs brokers, identify gaps, and lead actions to provide continuous improvement. Complete audits, inquiries, and filings related to customs, imports, and exports. Stay updated on global trade laws, sanctions, duties, tariffs, and customs regulations. Lead duty mitigation efforts, especially focusing on implementation of a Duty Drawback program (e.g., duty drawback, bonded warehousing, and FTZs). Work with internal teams (procurement, customer service, warehouse) to ensure accurate and timely shipments. Lead the analysis of our portfolio to identify opportunities for improvement. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment where time-sensitive feedback is necessary. Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, International Business, or related field (or equivalent experience). Certification such as CCS (Certified Customs Specialist), CTCS (Certified Trade Compliance Specialist), or CIFFA is preferred. 5+ years of experience in customs compliance for consumer products required. 3+ years of experience in transportation & logistics, preferably in a manufacturing or distribution environment. Experience working with 3PLs, freight forwarders, and customs brokers. Knowledge of global shipping documentation requirements and country-specific trade rules. Familiarity with CTPAT, FTZ, and international trade compliance programs, preferred. Proven experience with cross-border (Canada/US) and international (Asia, EU, LATAM) shipments. Solid understanding of: USMCA/CUSMA, HTS/HS codes, and tariff evaluation methods; CARM (Canada), ACE (U.S. Customs), DMS (CBSA), and general compliance frameworks; Import/export controls, including EAR, ITAR, and CBSA/CBP requirements for both raw materials and finished goods. Experience with freight management systems, ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, D365 F&O), external portals (customs portals, broker platforms, freight forwarding, etc.), and Microsoft Office suite. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities. Excellent communication and negotiation skills. Seniority level
