You will join McKinsey’s Boston office as part of our Life Sciences Intelligence (LSi) team in North America. This is a hybrid role, with 2-3 days per week in-person from McKinsey’s Boston office and potential travel to additional McKinsey or client offices based on project needs. The LSi team is part of McKinsey’s global Client Capabilities Network (CCN) with more than 3,500 colleagues delivering client impact and innovation. Within the CCN, Life Sciences is a large industry group with 100+ professionals across hubs in Boston, Lisbon, Poland, India, Japan, and China. You will work with Life Sciences colleagues and clients on R&D topics, with a focus on Clinical Development. Projects may involve protocol design benchmarking, trial site selection, study startup orchestration, enrollment support, submission excellence, and other Development topics, including pre-clinical or early development and broader R&D and portfolio strategy for pharmaceutical companies. You will scope business questions, disaggregate and prioritize information needs, and problem-solve across international, cross-functional teams to determine appropriate solutions while balancing quality, timelines, and costs. You will gain experience with Generative AI models and craft clear prompts for AI tools. Your day-to-day work includes generating insights using analytical tools (e.g., Excel, R, Generative AI tools) from licensed data, McKinsey data sets, and external sources (e.g., ClinicalTrials.gov). You will communicate insights and deliver end products to clients and McKinsey teams in formats such as memos, PowerPoint presentations, and tables. You will contribute to expanding Life Sciences R&D capabilities and assets and develop your knowledge and skills in Life Sciences R&D with leadership alignment. Responsibilities

Generate insights through a range of analytical approaches and tools from multiple data sources, including external datasets and proprietary McKinsey assets. Communicate findings to clients and internal teams in clear, actionable formats (memos, slides, and tables). Collaborate with colleagues across functions and geographies to scope questions and prioritize information needs. Develop and apply Generative AI prompts and tools to automate processes and derive insights. Contribute to expanding the firm’s Life Sciences R&D capabilities and proprietary assets. Your Qualifications and Skills

Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., biology, public health, biochemistry); master’s degree is a plus 1+ years of experience or strong interest in pharmaceutical R&D topics from sponsor, CRO, or site perspectives (e.g., clinical science, operations, trial execution, pharmacovigilance, regulatory, medical writing, or other development topics) High proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and data manipulation Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment Excellent problem-solving, structure, and communication skills Professional attitude with strong teamwork and service orientation Comfort with Generative AI prompts; experience is a plus but not required Solid understanding of financial, economic, and business concepts Demonstrated business research experience in academic or professional settings is preferred Job Details
