Job Summary Under the direction of a pharmacist, performs pharmacy-related functions in compliance with department policies and procedures, and participates as an active member of the pharmacy team to provide safe, rational and cost-effective pharmaceutical care. Accountable for pharmacy services that require advanced training in pharmacy automation. Assumes responsibility for ensuring the pharmacy's automated systems are functioning in a safe and efficient manner. Serves as a mentor for pharmacy automation. Advocates for safe medication practices and assist with the development of new procedures.

Performs all technician functions specific to the space that the pharmacy technician is responsible for supporting, including but not limited to: System Support, Informatics Support, Automated Dispense Cabinet Support, Billing/Charging Support, Specialized Roles supporting the health system as approved by the Pharmacy Director Cohort, Narcotics Management as approved by the Pharmacy Director Cohort
Adheres to the appropriate regulatory guidelines for narcotic management within a hospital or health system, including TJC, DHEC, SC Board of Pharmacy and DEA.
Expertise in inventory management related to controlled substances, including collaboration in purchasing and maintaining records.
Maintains proficiency in CentrakVestigo, Epic, and other software used for pharmacy records, including responding to inquiries from trial administrators and maintaining professional relationships with auditors.
Delivers medications to patient care areas in a timely manner.
Supports medication assistance programs and develops policies/procedures for medication assistance workflows for uninsured/underinsured patients.
Conducts patient interviews to construct accurate medication lists and verifies information with outside providers as needed.
Leads pharmacy operations at sites with >350 beds or >8 technicians.
Provides excellent customer service, maintains a clean work environment, and participates in training and mentorship of staff.
Supports quality assurance and performance improvement activities.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Supervisory/Management Responsibilities This is a non-management role that reports to a supervisor or manager.
Minimum Requirements
High School diploma or equivalent; or post-high school degree.
Two (2) years of experience as a Pharmacy Tech, with experience in pharmacy software and information systems.
Required Certifications
Certified Pharmacy Tech with Board of Pharmacy
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of applicable regulations (State BOP, DHEC, DEA)
Strong communication, teamwork, customer service skills
Attention to detail, ability to work collaboratively, handle interruptions, and adapt to change
Proficient in office equipment and computer skills
Strong mathematical and data entry skills
