Senior Robotics Software Engineer (Python Experience Required)
Join Atomic Machines as a Senior Robotics Software Engineer. We are seeking a highly skilled engineer to design and implement software that drives advanced automation systems. Atomic Machines is ushering in a new era of micromanufacturing with its Matter Compiler technology. This full-stack technology enables new classes of micromachines to be designed and built by offering manufacturing processes and a materials library that is inaccessible to semiconductor manufacturing methods. Our offices are in Emeryville and Santa Clara, California. About The Role:
We are seeking a Senior Robotics Software Engineer to design and implement software that drives advanced automation systems at Atomic Machines. The ideal candidate has strong computer science fundamentals, expertise in Python and C++, and hands-on experience developing software that interfaces tightly with hardware. What You’ll Do: Join the Robotics and Controls team within Platform Engineering and work closely with electro-mechanical teams to bring up and integrate new manufacturing processes. Develop software for automation sequencing, motion coordination, and hardware interfacing across sensors, actuators, and embedded controllers. Build integration frameworks that connect mechatronic subsystems into cohesive, production-ready manufacturing platforms. Create calibration, diagnostic, and bring-up tools to accelerate deployment of new hardware and simplify troubleshooting for engineers and technicians. Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and manufacturing engineers to translate production requirements into robust automation capabilities. Contribute to simulation and digital twin environments to validate software-hardware integration and accelerate deployment cycles. Support development of the Matter Compiler’s mechatronic subsystems, ensuring reliability and repeatability in manufacturing operations. Establish best practices in software development for automation: modularity, testability, and maintainability. What You’ll Need: A first-principles mindset — you question assumptions, reframe problems from the ground up, and approach challenges with a foundational understanding rather than relying solely on precedent. 6+ years of hands-on experience developing software for mechatronic, automation, or industrial systems. BS or MS in Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field, or equivalent work experience. Proficiency in Python and C++, bonus points for experience in real-time environments. Strong understanding of manufacturing automation concepts, including hardware integration, sequencing, and system-level coordination. Familiarity with sensors (encoders, cameras, force/torque, thermal, etc.) and actuators used in automated systems. Experience building diagnostic, calibration, or test frameworks for complex electromechanical systems. Track record of deploying reliable, production-grade software in manufacturing or automation environments. Strong problem-solving skills, cross-disciplinary collaboration, and ability to work independently on complex technical challenges. We offer a competitive base pay range of $170,000.00/yr - $230,000.00/yr, as well as benefits including medical insurance, vision insurance, 401(k), paid maternity leave, paid paternity leave, and disability insurance.
