Scope
Machinery or Equipment Used:
Computer, telephone, wheelchair, gurney, fax, copier, electronic monitoring, treatment device, medication dispenser – Omnicell, SARA lift, wheeled carts, diagnostic and therapeutic equipment necessary to perform duties within the limits of their training, experience and granted privileges.
Physical Demands
Prolonged, extensive or considerable standing/walking. Lifts, positions, pushes and/or transfers patients. Considerable reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling or crouching. Ability to move quickly in response to emergency care situations.
Working Conditions
Conditions where there is potential for danger to life and health in dealing with violent/infectious patients. May be exposed to infections and contagious diseases. Regularly exposed to risk of blood borne diseases, hazards from electrical equipment, housekeeping cleaning agents or chemicals from contaminated patients. May be exposed to unpleasant patient or department conditions. Subject to pressures of multiple calls/interruptions and crisis situations.
Required Protective Equipment
Ergonomically correct computer equipment, as well as PPE required on a case by case basis to perform appropriate patient care (eye protection, face protection, goggles, mask, gown, non-sterile medical gloves and sterile medical gloves).
Essential Functions
Provides diagnosis, treatment, consultation and follow up for patients seen on Northwestern Medical Center’s Medical/Surgical and Intensive Care Units under the supervision of the Medical Director. Completes timely History and Physical and documentation Orders appropriate lab and diagnostic procedures and studies Interprets and integrates data to deliver appropriate therapeutic goals Utilizes referral services when appropriate Provides education to patients on both acute and chronic care of condition. Works in an independent and interdependent relationship with members of the medical staff, which allow for consultation, collaboration or referral Implements medical care within their limits of privileges, including writing orders for medications, and prescribing out-patient medications according to Vermont Pharmacy Rules and Regulations. Effectively communicates with the patient and the family/support system about the treatment plan, resources and required follow up care. Utilizes the hospitals electronic health record by appropriately documenting all patient interactions. Maintains legible, accurate and confidential medical records. Documents all medical evaluations, diagnosis, procedures, treatment outcomes, education, referrals, and consultations consistent with hospital polices and procedures and regulatory agencies Provides direct and indirect medical supervision as needed to allow the Nurse Practitioner to carry out his/her duties as an Advanced Practice Provider. Actively participates in hospital committees and maintains both a collegial and independent relationship with members of the medical staff and Hospital employees. Demonstrates support of and assists with the execution of cost saving process improvement initiatives. Partners with other departments of the hospital to ensure efficient flow of patients.
