Overview
DIRECTOR OF ANATOMIC PATHOLOGY, Seattle Children’s Hospital The Department of Laboratories at Seattle Children’s Hospital is seeking a M.D. or M.D./Ph.D. trained Director of Anatomic Pathology who is board-certified in anatomic and/or pediatric pathology and has a track record of accomplishments to lead our group of anatomic pathologists in care for children in the Pacific Northwest and beyond. The department provides patient-focused services and collaborates on research and training of house staff and medical students. Candidates must possess an M.D. or equivalent degree and qualify for licensure in Washington and for faculty appointment at the University of Washington. You will join a full-service combined anatomic/clinical pathology team with 9 anatomic pathology and 16 clinical pathology faculty, working with over 200 technical staff to perform over three million clinical tests annually, including molecular microbiology, next-gen sequencing, flow cytometry, and biochemical genetics. The anatomic pathology service handles approximately 10,000 specimens annually, including 7,000 surgical, 2,000 cytology, 700 bone marrow, 750 placental/perinatal specimens, and 120 autopsies including referred fetal/perinatal cases. The Director will collaborate with and report to the Chief of the Department of Laboratories to guide and grow the service and adapt to the evolving field including digital/computational pathology and greater integration of molecular diagnostics. Responsibilities
Provide overall leadership for the scope and quality of all clinical services, education and research related to anatomic pathology, ensuring continuous quality improvement, customer service, programmatic growth and financial stewardship that support the mission of Seattle Children’s Hospital and regional sites. Develop and implement strategic initiatives including operations, facilities, capital and operating budgets, and staffing. Collaborate with the Chief/Medical Director of the Department of Laboratories and the Administrative Director of Laboratories to manage resources and ensure regulatory requirements are met. Required Education And Experience
MD Degree. Board certified in anatomic pathology. Medical Staff membership and appropriate clinical privileges at Seattle Children’s. Minimum of five (5) years managerial experience in a clinical laboratory. UW School of Medicine (SOM) faculty appointment. Required Credentials
Licensed as a Physician in the State of Washington. Prior to start of employment, must obtain and maintain medical or allied health professional staff privileges that are not limited, revoked, suspended, conditioned, or probationary (except for normal probationary periods). All medical and allied health professional staff members are provisional for the first year. Privileges terminate automatically upon termination of employment, but may apply as a non-employee in eligible categories.
