The Student Nurse Anesthetist (SNA) is a participant in the Student Sponsorship program which is designed to provide a SNA an opportunity to secure employment for their future role of Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) that includes leadership, direction, and feedback to care team members, assessment, collaboration, and the coordination regarding plan of care, patient and family education, pain management, patient safety, and planning for patient discharge.
The SNA functions under the direct supervision of a CRNA mentor while carrying out designated skills that she/he has learned in educational programs and/or orientation and has demonstrated competence to her/his unit manager or CRNA mentor. The SNA will serve as a member of the Anesthesia Care Team in a medically directed capacity to provide safe, appropriate anesthetics for a variety of patients.
Responsibilities
Develops an appropriate Anesthetic care plan based on the specific needs of the patient and surgeon Assures that an appropriate pre-Anesthetic evaluation of the patient has been performed, to include proper Anesthetic Record documentation and informed consent. Determines the drug, equipment and supply needs for each Anesthetic and prepares accordingly. Transports the patient from the POHA to the Surgical Suite. Assists in proper positioning of the patient in the Surgical Suite, applies appropriate monitoring modalities. Induces and maintains Anesthesia at appropriate levels, manages any intra-operative Anesthetic needs, seeks consultation and assistance from the Anesthesiologist as appropriate. Records appropriate data on the Anesthetic Record completely and accurately Terminates the Anesthetic when appropriate, assists with transport of the patient to the PACU area using appropriate monitoring and airway support adjuncts when required and provides an accurate, appropriate report to the nurse accepting care of the patient post-operatively. Qualifications
Graduate of approved BSN program Senior Year Student of approved CRNA program Current State of Michigan RN license State of Michigan CRNA Specialty Certification within 3 months of graduation from CRNA program NBCRNA Certification within 3 months of graduation from CRNA program Board Certification within 3 months of graduation from CRNA program Current BLS/ACLS Certification Current PALS Certification Current American Association of Nurse Anesthetists Membership The Student Nurse Anesthetist demonstrates excellent customer service performance in that his/her attitude and actions are always consistent with the standards contained in the Vision, Mission and Values of Covenant HealthCare and the commitment to Extraordinary Care for Every Generation.
