Overview
The geriatrics division director reports to the chair of the department of medicine and provides strategic leadership for all clinical, educational, research, and administrative functions of the division. The successful candidate will oversee a team of geriatricians and advanced practice providers delivering specialized care to Brooklyn's diverse older adult population while advancing the academic and clinical missions of the division.
Responsibilities
Leadership & Administration:
Develop a vision for geriatric care excellence Oversee divisional finances, focusing on sustainability and growth Lead faculty recruitment, retention, and development Represent division in institutional committees
Clinical Excellence
Oversee geriatric care delivery across all settings Implement innovative care models addressing diverse older adult needs Establish productivity standards while ensuring quality care Lead geriatric-specific quality improvement initiatives
Academic & Educational Leadership
Coordinate medical education for fellows, residents, and students Act as a resource for the geriatrics fellowship program Help plan departmental grand rounds with geriatrics-specific topics Create individualized faculty development plans
Research Advancement
Develop a cohesive geriatrics research program Support faculty academic projects and secure research funding Foster institutional and external research collaborations
Qualifications
MD/DO with fellowship training in geriatric medicine Board certification in geriatric medicine and primary specialty (e.g., internal medicine, family medicine) Significant clinical experience in geriatrics with progressive leadership responsibilities Demonstrated excellence in medical education and mentorship Track record of scholarly activity in geriatric medicine Academic rank qualifications: associate professor or professor preferred Unrestricted New York State medical license Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively across disciplines Experience with quality improvement in geriatric care settings Vision for advancing geriatric medicine in a diverse urban environment
