The BIDMC Nursing Mission is to build on a legacy of nursing excellence by caring with compassion, advancing the art & science of nursing, and advocating for the health of patients, families, and communities. The APN - NICU provides guidance and situational support to nursing staff and other disciplines. This person assists the program medical director with the development and implementation of program goals, objectives, policies, and procedures. Training, evaluation and competencies for this role are overseen by a Nurse Leader to the department. Essential Responsibilities
Assumes responsibility for assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of the plan of care for a panel of patients and/or episodic needs according to professional and organizational standards for quality and productivity. Assesses total needs of patient population including pre-admission and post-discharge scenarios and continuing care needs. Collaborates with other health care disciplines within the medical center and community to develop effective patient care programs and to analyze cost-benefit and value. Identifies learning needs of patients and staff and collaborates with other team to determine priorities for educational programs. Participates in interdisciplinary education programs of the unit and provides clinical precepting for nursing students, nurse practitioner students, medical students and others. Required Qualifications
Master's degree in Nursing required. Nurse Practitioner License required, and Certificate 1 Basic Life Support required, and Certificate 2 NRP required. 0-1 years related work experience required. DEA and MCS numbers for prescription writing practices (completed through credentialing). Licensed by the state of Massachusetts as Nurse Practitioner (RN/NP). Experience with computer systems required, including web-based applications and some Microsoft Office applications. Preferred Qualifications
1-3 years previous NICU experience. Certification by the NCC (National Certification Corporation for the Obstetric, Gynecologic and Neonatal Nursing Specialties). Competencies
Decision Making: Ability to make decisions guided by precedents, policies and objectives. Problem Solving: Addressing varied, complex issues with input from staff and lean diagnostic techniques. Independence of Action: Set goals and determine how to achieve defined results with broad guidance. Written Communications: Ability to summarize and communicate complex information in English in varied formats. Oral Communications: Ability to communicate complex verbal information to staff, patients, families and external customers. Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of concepts, practices and policies with the ability to apply in complex situations. Team Work: Lead and direct multiple collaborative teams across functional areas. Customer Service: Provide high level of customer service and staff training; resolve service issues timely and respectfully. Age-based Competencies: Neonatal care appropriate for Birth to 6 months. Physical and Other Requirements
Physical Nature of the Job: Medium work; may involve exerting up to 50 pounds and standing/moving for much of the shift. Vaccination: Beth Israel Lahey Health requires influenza vaccination for all staff as a condition of employment. Additional Information
