Job Title Speech-Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA)

Job Summary / Objective

Under the direction and supervision of a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP), the Speech-Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) assists in the implementation of speech and language therapy services for individuals with language and communication. This position is a support role, focused on carrying out documented treatment plans, collecting data, and performing administrative tasks to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of therapy services.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Provide direct therapy services to students following documented plans developed by the supervising SLP. Document student performance and progress toward meeting established objectives. This includes collecting data, preparing charts, records, and graphs, and reporting information to the supervising SLP. Assist the SLP during assessments by preparing materials, setting up the testing environment, and performing clerical duties as directed. Conduct speech and language screenings without interpreting the results. Prepare therapy materials and equipment for use in sessions. Modify or adapt instructional materials and equipment as determined by student needs and abilities, under the guidance of the SLP. Support the use of augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) devices and systems. Communicate with other service providers to share objective information about client performance, without providing interpretation or recommendations. Participate in team meetings, in-service trainings, and other professional development activities as required. Qualifications and Requirements

Associate's degree from an accredited Speech-Language Pathology Assistant program or a Bachelor's degree in a related field. Current certification or licensure as a Speech-Language Pathology Assistant, as required by the state. Completion of a specific number of clinical observation and fieldwork hours under the supervision of a licensed SLP, as mandated by the state. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team. Knowledge of speech and language development and disorders. Proficiency in using computer software for documentation and record-keeping. Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to all relevant regulations, such as HIPAA and FERPA. Physical and Mental Demands

Maintain emotional control under stress. Lift, carry, push, or pull equipment/supplies/children up to a specified weight (e.g., 25-50 pounds). Work in a variety of settings, which may include sitting on the floor, moving quickly on uneven terrain, and traveling to different locations. Manual dexterity to handle therapy materials and enter data into a computer.
