Job Title: Substitute Afternoon Extended Care/After School Care Assistant

Division/Department: Auxiliary Programs. Village School & 6th Grade

Reports to: Extended Day Care Manager

Location: Palos Verdes Peninsula

Type of position/FLSA - Non-Exempt/Hourly

Salary Band: 10 Month Part-Time Non-Exempt Employee

POSITION SUMMARY

The afternoon Substitute Extended Care Assistant supervises Kindergarten through 6th grade students during various duties, including afternoon activities and extended care/after school time. In addition, they support K-6 teachers as needed. An essential part of this position is interacting with and supervising children. Respectful and kind communication with children is required. Extended Care/After School assistants make decisions with confidence and plan creatively. Experience with children is essential.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES Supervise Village/Elementary students during lunch, recess, and after-school care Accompany students to specialist teachers/classrooms as needed Other: Playground - ensure that all school space and equipment is left clean and orderly Available to work approximately 11:30 a.m. until 5:30pm, may be less if few students in Extended Care/Afternoon School Care. (6 hours) Perform other duties as assigned Education, experience and skill requirements

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS

Skills:

Skilled in Child Supervision and Engagement Experience working with K-6 students preferred Flexible Good communication skills

Compensation is $20 per hour. The position will begin as soon as pre-hire screenings are complete.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements:

• Walking and being outdoors for somewhat extended periods of time on a regular basis is

part of the job as the school sits on 45 acres of land

• Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision,

peripheral vision, depth perception and an ability to adjust focus.

• May use telephone, computer, copier, and other office equipment in the course

of a day.
