Senior Software Engineer (Experimentation Platform)

Affirm is reinventing credit to make it more honest and friendly, giving consumers the flexibility to buy now and pay later without any hidden fees or compounding interest. The Affirm Experimentation Platform (AXP) team empowers Affirm to make data-driven decisions and enable safe rollouts. We support launches through Feature Flags and enable hypothesis-driven learning through controlled Experiments that help grow the business. AXP builds the APIs, systems, and workflows that allow engineers to target, ramp, and measure changes. We believe simpler is better and strive to improve our engineers’ ability to deliver impact without compromising availability. What You’ll Do

Own and deliver quarterly goals for your team, guiding engineers through ambiguity to solve open-ended problems, and ensuring everyone is supported during delivery. Collaborate with product management, design, and analytics to ideate, articulate technical constraints, and make decisions that consider risks and trade-offs. Proactively identify project, process, technology or business issues, advocate for them, and lead in solving them. Support the operations and availability of your team’s artifacts by creating and monitoring metrics, escalating when needed, and participating in on-call efforts. Foster a culture of quality and ownership by setting or improving code review and design standards, and advocating for them beyond your team. Help develop talent on your team by providing feedback and leading by example. What We Look For

4+ years of experience designing, developing and launching backend systems at scale using languages like Python or Kotlin. Track record of building highly available distributed systems using AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes. Experience defining a technical plan for a significant feature or system component with an elegant, simple, and extensible design; write high-quality code that is easily understood and used by others. Ability to make significant changes in a large code base and develop tools and practices to do so safely.
