UKG is hiring a Principal Architect for the UKGPro product. In this role you will lead and drive the architectural design and implementation of key modules within the product. This role requires a strong technical background and a passion for driving innovation and efficiency. Architects participate in defining, implementing, and enforcing an overall architecture practice, focusing on efficiency and alignment with the technical ecosystem. They drive design and are hands-on to support teams, ensuring ongoing feature deliveries are well-designed, resilient, and optimized for performance. This role acts as a thought leader across cross-functional teams to help govern the software development lifecycle. The ideal candidate has experience in cloud infrastructure, enterprise architecture, software development principles, and AI/ML technologies. Key responsibilities
Provide technical leadership and support to UKG Pro engineering teams Develop and communicate a clear architectural vision aligned with the organization's goals and a product-suite mindset Clarify product requirements to ensure designs are fit for purpose and align with architecture strategy Develop technical roadmaps and ensure services meet architectural guidelines and standards Deep-dive into code to verify design integrity and maintain cost-effective, straightforward designs Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather requirements and ensure architectural designs meet stakeholder needs Define and enforce CI/CD standards, development methodologies, and QA processes Identify and mitigate risks associated with architectural decisions Anticipate business needs 6+ months out and collaborate with leaders to plan accordingly Utilize Architecture Governance resources to ensure designs reflect principles and standards Ensure adoption of observability tools and a service-owner mindset for quick recovery and resilience Leverage AI tools to identify productivity improvements for engineering teams and add value for users Document and maintain product and service architecture Drive strategic architecture vision and innovation Evaluate emerging technologies and trends to ensure scalability, security, and performance Provide architecture leadership across cross-product and multi-year visions Identify architecture risks and mitigation strategies Research industry technology trends to drive a competitive advantage for UKG products Qualifications
12 years of software development experience in a fast-paced environment, with experience across the full software development lifecycle Proven experience as a lead architect or similar role, driving architecture and implementation of complex software solutions Extensive design experience with .NET-based development for SaaS and multi-tenant systems Experience with observability tools (e.g., Datadog, Grafana) for production monitoring Experience with modern cloud technologies (GCP, AWS, Azure, Kubernetes) and designing cloud-optimized solutions including cost considerations and managed services Strong focus on reliable, scalable, secure, and decoupled solutions Strong CI/CD experience Experience in analysis, feasibility studies, performance analysis, and prototyping Experience in multi-platform software development Proficiency in object-oriented design, SOA, and design patterns Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills; ability to influence stakeholders at all levels Strong problem-solving skills Experience with relational and non-relational databases (SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, Cassandra, etc.) Experience with modern quality practices and automated testing Experience with AI/ML techniques Experience with analytics technologies (BigQuery, Snowflake, Tableau, Looker) Experience with messaging/event streaming (Kafka, RabbitMQ, Apache Beam, Spark) Experience with integration platforms (e.g., Boomi) Bachelors/Master’s in Engineering/Computer Science or equivalent experience Where we’re going
