The position is responsible for coordination and oversight of the Fetal Infant Mortality Review (FIMR) Program and the FIMR Community Action Teams. They are also responsible for developing and facilitating new programs and partnerships to reduce the infant mortality rate in the Indiana Central Southwestern region in collaboration with the All Babies Initiative (ABI) and other community stakeholders . FIMR is composed of a diverse team of volunteers who investigate the causes of fetal and infant deaths to develop and implement strategies to enhance the health and well-being of women, infants, and families by improving the community resources and service delivery systems.

FIMR Coordinator Essential Job Duties:

Community Engagement

Recruit and train volunteers for the Case Review Team and Community Action Teams;

Schedule and coordinate in-person and virtual meetings for teams and stakeholders;

Engage stakeholders including but not limited to: medical and mental health professionals, families, social services providers, other client service providers, local health departments, faith based organizations, and criminal justice professionals to present findings and recommendations;

Attend meetings and trainings with IDOH technical assistance teams;

Assist the Case Review Team with developing action plans and support the Community Action Teams with implementation efforts;

Promote prevention activities and strategies to increase awareness of risks and to actively reduce infant and maternal mortality;

Stay current on evidence-based practices, relevant statistics, data, and public health trends.

Next of Kin Interview Duties

Obtain Release of Information (ROI) from family members who experienced loss.

Conduct questionnaires and interviews with family members in a professional and compassionate manner.

Record Keeping Duties

Collect and maintain fetal and infant mortality records, as well as maternal and paternal records, while ensuring strict confidentiality and accuracy;

Abstract relevant information from a wide range of sources, including but not limited to: death data spreadsheets, hospital records, physician office documentation, immunization records, pharmacy records, other medical records, caseworker reports, DCS files, birth and death records, coroner reports, funeral home reports, social service program records, mental health records, and criminal records;

Complete standardized forms for each case during team meetings and prepare concise meeting summaries;

Maintain signed confidentiality agreements for all team members.

Reporting Duties

Assess and analyze patterns or trends identified by FIMR team across geographic, demographic, socioeconomic, and seasonal factors;

Compile, analyze, and publish reports and statistics to all community stakeholders;

Prepare and present annual report summarizing findings, recommendations, and prevention efforts implemented based on FIMR work;

Complete grant reporting requirements.

Additional Requirements

Ability to read and interpret medical records and understand medical vocabulary

Education, Training & Experience

Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing, Public Health, Maternal Health or related field required with experience in reproductive, infant, and maternal health. RN highly preferred.

Excellent collaborative skills to facilitate information sharing across multiple agencies.

Strong organizational abilities with the capacity to file and retrieve records efficiently.

Demonstrate empathy, compassion, and a nonjudgmental attitude when conducting case reviews and interviewing next of kin.

High attention to detail, ensuring accurate data entry and record-keeping.

Self-motivated and able to meet deadlines independently.

Professional verbal and written communication skills.

Receptive to feedback and able to apply it constructively.
