Senior Product Designer

who is as passionate about gaming as we are.

Role Overview As a Senior Product Designer at Backbone, you’ll lead the design of our software experiences across mobile, tablet, TV, and emerging platforms. You will be at the forefront of transforming ideas into captivating, user-centric designs while collaborating closely with cross-functional teams, including Software Engineering, Software Product, and Hardware. You will report directly to the Head of Software and help drive the mission to be the #1 destination for gamers. This role requires a roll-up-your-sleeves mentality, high ownership, and a passion for creating products that resonate with gaming enthusiasts worldwide.

Key Responsibilities

Own end-to-end software design problems – From concept to launch and beyond, taking full ownership of the user journey.

Craft high-fidelity mockups and produce detailed design specifications that seamlessly guide engineers through implementation.

Develop and maintain a robust design system – Maintain and update a comprehensive library of shared design components to ensure consistency and scalability across all devices.

Iterate designs using data-driven insights – Continuously refine and optimize experiences based on quantitative metrics and qualitative feedback.

Cross-functional collaboration – Work closely with engineers, designers, product managers, and data scientists to deliver compelling and scalable experiences.

High visibility across the business – Present designs and concepts to stakeholders across different teams, ensuring alignment with product strategy and user needs.

Guide team discussions and decision-making – Lead design critiques and facilitate productive team debates.

Qualifications

Minimum 4-6 years of experience in shipping consumer-facing products – B2C experience is mandatory

Proven experience in designing cross-platform applications – Mobile, tablet, desktop, and TV

Mastery in Figma and prototyping tools (e.g., Origami Studio, After Effects)

Proficiency in the Adobe Suite – Illustrator, Photoshop, etc.

Experience in consumer businesses – Demonstrated success in building products for a consumer audience

Development of design systems – Proven experience in creating and maintaining scalable design systems

Cross-functional leadership – Adept at influencing and collaborating with multiple teams, ensuring cohesive product experiences

Exceptional communication and presentation skills – Ability to articulate complex ideas and design decisions effectively

High ownership mentality – Proactive problem-solving and a hands-on approach to getting things done

Bonus Points

Experience designing for large screens – Tablets, TVs, or other big-screen platforms

Deep knowledge of gaming ecosystems – Understanding of player behaviors and gaming industry trends

Passion for gaming – You live and breathe games, understanding the nuances of what makes an immersive experience for gamers
