The Substitute Health Aide is responsible for assisting students with basic health needs, monitoring the nurse's office, and supporting the overall well-being of students in the absence of the school nurse. This position involves providing care within established guidelines, following health protocols, and seeking assistance when issues extend beyond the aide's training. The role requires dependability, attentiveness, and a commitment to maintaining a safe and supportive environment for all students. Paid training is provided for CPR, First Aid, and basic Nurse's Office procedures.

REPORTS TO : Principal

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

Provides basic first aid and attends to students' minor health needs in the absence of the school nurse. Monitors the nurse's office and ensures students are supervised and cared for while awaiting pick-up or return to class. Follows established health protocols and seeks guidance from administrators or the school nurse when issues exceed training or scope. Communicates effectively with students, staff, and administrators to support student well-being and uphold school policies. Maintains accurate records of student visits, medications administered (if permitted), and health-related incidents. Responds to emergency situations according to school safety and health procedures. Maintains confidentiality of student health information in compliance with district policies and legal requirements. Assists with other school duties as assigned. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES -

Requires some computer skills. Requires knowledge of diabetes, seizures, and asthma. Requires ability to read and understand route instructions. Requires ability to work collaboratively. Requires effective written and verbal communication skills. Requires ability to operate standard office and classroom equipment. PHYSICAL ABILITIES

Required to occasionally move objects weighing up to 50 pounds around the workspace. Requires travel to multiple work sites within the District using reliable, personal transportation. WORK ENVIRONMENT

General office conditions. Exposed to moderate noise levels.

Certification : Required qualifications to effectively perform job. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be considered. Substitute teaching certification is required.

Experience : Pediatric experience preferred.
