Overview
The Vice President, Real Estate Lending provides visionary leadership and strategic direction for Tower Federal Credit Union’s real estate lending business. Overseeing sales, operations, quality assurance & compliance, and secondary marketing teams, the VP ensures that every aspect of the lending function reflects Tower’s mission to promote the financial well-being of our members while upholding our values of integrity, member focus, collaboration, and innovation. Responsibilities
Provide strategic leadership and direction for the Credit Union’s real estate lending function, including sales, operations, quality assurance & compliance, and secondary marketing to ensure efficiency, profitability, and service excellence. Develop and maintain multiple delivery channels for origination and purchase of mortgage and home equity loans (retail, referrals, realtor networks, correspondent partners, and other third parties). Design and execute strategies to achieve portfolio growth, volume, and income goals aligned with annual and multi-year business plans, optimizing product mix, yield, and risk management for member value. Provide executive oversight for real estate loan products and secondary market activities, ensuring regulatory compliance, internal policy alignment, and investor requirements; act as primary liaison with secondary market investors, including GSEs. Direct and evaluate origination, underwriting, processing, closing, post-closing, reporting, quality assurance, and compliance to ensure operational efficiency and a seamless member experience; establish performance standards and incentive goals for staff in coordination with HR. Oversee regulatory compliance for all real estate lending, including loan forms, disclosures, and policies; provide annual attestations as a Compliance Team Leader and support compliance initiatives as a Team Member. Study operational and market trends, perform research and analysis, and recommend products, pricing, delivery channels, and technology enhancements; implement approved tactical and strategic initiatives. Collaborate with other executives, Marketing, and branch/remote service teams to coordinate promotional activities, referral programs, and service delivery platforms to achieve loan growth and retention goals. Manage relationships with third-party vendors, including due diligence, contract negotiation, performance monitoring, and regulatory/risk management compliance. Serve as the Senior Real Estate Underwriter with oversight of lending authority limits, loan approvals, and appeals in coordination with the SVP/Chief Lending Officer and Board of Directors. Provide executive leadership for staffing, talent development, coaching, performance management, and succession planning across real estate lending. Monitor industry and member feedback to ensure Tower remains competitive and member-focused; coordinate preparation of operational, compliance, and financial reporting to senior management and the Board. Maintain registration and compliance with the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System and Registry (NMLS) in accordance with the SAFE Act. Perform other duties as assigned by the Senior Vice President, Lending, or the President/CEO, and contribute to enterprise-wide initiatives. Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college in Business or Finance preferred. Eight (8) years of progressive experience in mortgage lending with expertise in origination, underwriting, processing, servicing, secondary marketing, and regulatory compliance; experience in loan product development and market expansion. Five (5) years in a senior management role with success in staff development, coaching, succession planning, and building high-performing teams. Demonstrated success in sales and/or relationship management with growth and profitability accountability. In-depth knowledge of real estate lending regulations, investor guidelines, and compliance requirements (NCUA, CFPB). Strong strategic planning and execution skills with ability to analyze market trends and recommend innovative lending strategies. Exceptional leadership, communication, and relationship-building skills across executives, the board, and external stakeholders. Vendor management experience including contract negotiation, performance oversight, and risk management compliance. Current NMLS registration and SAFE Act compliance, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
Ability to analyze profitability, trends, variance, and correlations; proficient with word processing and spreadsheet software; strong data interpretation skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office; ability to understand and analyze financial, technical, and operational data; apply basic accounting rules and budgeting. Ability to operate lending delivery platforms and understand real estate lending processes; knowledge of credit-portfolio management. Highly preferred: knowledge of rate setting, asset/liability management, secondary market activity, loan servicing, and title/settlement services. Ability to read and interpret professional and regulatory materials; motivate staff; write technical reports and business communications; present complex topics to diverse audiences. Ability to develop practical solutions for ambiguous problems; excellent problem solving, negotiation, and planning capabilities. Ability to manage multiple projects, allocate resources within budget, and work under stress; maintain confidentiality and integrity with stakeholders. Adherence to credit union policies and all applicable regulations (BSA/Patriot Act/OFAC). Working Conditions
Ability to work the hours needed, which may extend beyond the defined schedule when operational conditions dictate. Ability to lift up to 20 lbs. and travel as required. Occasional off-site meetings with vendors and service providers. Additional Details
Hours: Monday - Friday 9:00am-5:30pm. Hiring Range: $198,105 to $247,631 USD Bonuses: $1000 signing/retaining bonus effective 01/20/2025 Full-time employment with benefits; Employee Only PPO and favorable premiums for other levels.
