Under the general direction of the Associate Medical Director and/or Medical Director, the Physician Assistant provides primary ambulatory care and telehealth services as part of the SHS healthcare team. The incumbent assesses health status, evaluates and manages illnesses or injuries, provides initial psychological evaluation, promotes wellness, disease prevention, health education, and coordinates follow-up care, referrals, and case management. The Physician Assistant serves 16-20 patients per day, attends to psychosocial and developmental needs of university students, and participates on health center committees as needed. The Physician Assistant contributes to continuous improvement of services and practices patient-centered care in primary care settings. Appointment Information Budgeted Salary:

90% - Medical Care Provides direct patient care, including in-person and telehealth visits, in the Student Health Center clinic. Provides clinical assessment and management of patients with routine health problems, episodic acute illnesses and stable chronic illnesses, minor injuries, routine gynecological care, and treatment of sexually transmitted diseases. Evaluates and manages depression and anxiety in collaboration with counseling and psychiatric services available on campus and in the community. Orders, interprets, and communicates indicated screening and diagnostic exams. Recognizes and evaluates life-threatening situations, and initiates emergency treatment. Educates and counsels patients about physical and mental health, such as social habits, family planning, normal growth and development, and disease management. Provides support around issues commonly confronted by college students, such as sexual health, drugs and alcohol, and stress. Makes appropriate referrals. Performs minor procedures, such as laceration repair, incision and drainage, application of splints and casts, and treatment of minor burns. Initiates and manages care for patients requiring IV hydration or medication. Promotes continuity of care by serving as primary care provider for patients with chronic health issues using patient-centered care principles. Completes documentation, charting, and billing/coding in a timely manner. Participates in peer review, committee work, and special projects as requested. Supports the smooth functioning of services and may include occasional nights or weekends. 10% - Collaboration Works closely with other clinical staff to provide efficient care. Participates in Quality Management and other committees to monitor and improve care at UCSC SHS. Contributes to special projects and outreach efforts. Required Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited Physician Assistant Program Current State of California Physician Assistant license, in good standing Current DEA Registration Board Certification as a Physician Assistant (PA-C) Experience in general medicine, urgent care, or family practice (typically after 3-5+ years post-training) Experience in management of depression, anxiety, eating disorders, and gender-affirming care Strong oral and written communication skills; ability to work with patients, colleagues, and staff Demonstrated competency in multidisciplinary teamwork and cultural competency for diverse student populations Ability to prioritize a high-volume workload and work independently under time pressures Ability to manage multiple tasks with interruptions and maintain focus Preferred Qualifications
