Radiant System
Radiant is an El Segundo, CA-based startup building portable nuclear microreactors. The company’s first reactor, Kaleidos, is a 1-megawatt failsafe microreactor that can be transported anywhere power is needed and run for up to five years without refueling. Radiant aims to replace diesel generators with portable nuclear power to support hospitals, data centers, remote sites, and military bases. Founded in 2020, Radiant plans to test its first reactor next year at the Idaho National Laboratory, with initial customer deliveries beginning in 2028.
Role Procurement Manager
Overview Radiant is seeking a proactive and strategic Procurement Manager to lead the sourcing, negotiation, and acquisition of components, materials, and services essential for our micro-reactor systems. This role is pivotal in establishing and maintaining a resilient, cost-effective, and reliable supply base. You will collaborate with Supplier Development Engineers (SDEs), Engineering, Quality Assurance, and Operations to ensure suppliers meet quality, technical, commercial, and delivery requirements. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment, demonstrates strong negotiation skills, and understands sourcing within regulated industries.
Responsibilities
Strategic Sourcing: Lead identification, evaluation, and selection of potential suppliers based on cost, quality, reliability, capacity, and strategic fit, with SDE and Engineering collaboration.
Negotiation: Lead commercial negotiations for pricing, payment terms, lead times, and other contract terms to achieve optimal value.
Contract Management: Develop and manage supplier agreements, including MSAs, NDAs, and PO terms and conditions.
Purchase Order Management: Oversee the complete PO lifecycle, from requisition to delivery, ensuring timely delivery and quality compliance.
Supplier Relationship Management: Build and maintain strong supplier relationships as the primary point of contact for contractual and commercial matters.
Cost Analysis & Optimization: Analyze market trends, quotations, and total cost of ownership to identify cost-saving opportunities.
Risk Management: Assess and mitigate commercial and supply chain risks, including supplier financial health and capacity constraints.
Performance Monitoring: Track procurement metrics (on-time delivery, cost savings, purchase price variance) and support holistic supplier scorecards with SDEs.
Cross-functional Collaboration: Integrate technical and quality requirements with SDEs and work with Engineering, Quality, and Project Management to resolve supply issues and support timelines.
Process Improvement: Contribute to procurement policy and system improvements for efficiency and compliance.
Deliverables
Negotiated contracts and favorable terms with critical suppliers.
Managed portfolio of purchase orders aligning with project schedules.
Cost savings and avoidance through effective negotiation and sourcing.
Supplier performance reports focused on commercial and delivery metrics.
Mitigation plans for identified supply chain risks.
Streamlined procurement processes supporting Radiant's operations.
Strong collaboration with internal teams (SDE, Eng, QA, Operations) and suppliers.
Skills & Qualifications
Required:
Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Engineering, or a related field.
3–8 years of relevant experience in procurement, strategic sourcing, or supply chain management, preferably in manufacturing or technology.
Proven track record of negotiation and contract management.
Strong understanding of procurement processes (RFQ/RFP, PO management, supplier evaluation).
Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal).
Proficiency with ERP/MRP systems and standard office software.
Ability to travel occasionally to supplier locations (up to 30%).
Preferred
Experience conducting supplier audits, product and process inspections, and investigations.
Familiarity with quality management systems (e.g., ISO 9001, AS9100) and their procurement implications.
Understanding of supply chain dynamics within the energy or nuclear sector.
Additional Requirements
Willing to work extended hours and weekends as necessary to accomplish objectives.
Onsite work at El Segundo HQ.
