Arch Insurance Group, part of Arch Capital Ltd, is seeking an AVP to lead Reserving and Loss Analytics for Middle Market Business Divisions. This leadership role will co-lead M&A integration efforts on behalf of the Reserving & Loss Analytics team, with a primary focus on the Corporate Actuarial function (NAIC Statement of Actuarial Opinion processes, statutory reporting, etc.). The role provides support for the overall Corporate Actuarial function and leads Loss Analytic analyses. It offers high visibility and leverage across the organization. Responsibilities include building solutions, developing analyses, and helping develop a capable team to provide proactive insights and counsel Arch Insurance Group leadership and the business beyond reserves analysis. The Reserving and Loss Analytics team provides independent assessment of the balance sheet and portfolio of risks, ensuring adequacy and accuracy of reserves, and communicating quarterly reserve analyses to executive leadership, auditors, and regulators. The individual will help build a best-in-class Reserving & Loss Analytics organization providing an accurate, transparent, and independent view of the business. Key duties include applying modern actuarial approaches, leveraging data and analytics for critical decision making, and developing analytical tools and insights. Organization and prioritization skills are crucial due to dual responsibilities and cross-functional coordination. Job Responsibilities
Partner with leaders in the actuarial department to identify priorities for developing new models and improving existing frameworks Collaborate with underwriting, pricing, claims, and finance to develop a common view of the business; identify emerging trends and propose corrective action in a timely manner Lead projects across the Reserving & Loss Analytics Team and work with others to complete them Provide proactive insights, identify drivers, and ensure reserve analyses reflect portfolio changes to minimize volatility Apply innovative approaches and advanced analytics to analyze the business; ensure data quality and consistent application in reserving Partner with finance to provide accurate, timely, granular analyses to support quarterly financial reporting; contribute to ongoing forecasts and planning Collaborate with the global actuarial organization and business units to share knowledge Lead and advocate within Arch’s actuarial community; stay current on reserving methodologies, trends, and external issues Required Skills and Abilities
Software: Excel (expert), SQL (expert); Power BI (preferred); Python, Snowflake knowledge (preferred) Self-sufficient with the ability to progress and build comprehensive reserving models and analytic solutions Leadership: track record as a teacher, manager, peer, and contributor to a positive culture Analytical, quantitative skills; strong governance and communication Experience leading a reserving team at a large insurer or reinsurer Experience presenting to executive management and external stakeholders Ability to operate with ambiguity and drive change; inclusive leadership and development of team members Desired Skills and Abilities
Experience in Corporate Actuarial (NAIC SOA, regulatory interaction) preferred Excellent verbal and written communication; ability to explain complex concepts to executives and the board Adaptable, flexible, thrives in fast-paced environments Strong business judgment and impact orientation Curiosity, problem-solving mindset, and openness to ideas while driving results Collaborative, with the ability to respectfully challenge assumptions and drive adoption of new processes Education and Experience
University degree in a quantitative discipline Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society (ACAS) or strong ACAS candidates considered 10+ years of progressively senior, technical, hands-on actuarial experience in P&C Minimum of 5 years in a reserving or loss analytics function Base salary range (varies by location): NYC/Jersey City: $129,500 - $201,066/year; Chicago/Hartford: $116,600 - $180,959/year; St. Paul: $100,400 - $155,826/year.
