Job Summary
Facilitates physician's performance of invasive, therapeutic, and diagnostic procedures. Handles instruments, supplies, and equipment during the surgical procedure. Ensures quality patient care and maintains the sterile field throughout the operative procedure.
Responsibilities
Verifies surgery to be performed with consent forms and brings patient to the assigned operating room. Passes instruments to the surgeon during the procedure and anticipates the surgeon’s needs for additional supplies. Prepares sterile dressings and secures dressings after incision closure. Checks supplies and equipment needed for the procedure and sets up the sterile table with instruments, supplies, equipment, and medications/solutions. Assists in draping the sterile field and prepares instruments for terminal sterilization. Assists in room turnover and preps the room for the next patient. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
Education and Work Experience
Associate degree or Certificate of Program Completion in Surgical Technology: Required Relevant acute care experience: Preferred Circulating/Scrub experience: Preferred At least 1 year of surgical technologist experience in a hospital setting: Preferred Licenses/Certifications
National Board of Surgical Technologists or Association of Surgical Technologists certified: Preferred Basic Life Support (BLS or equivalent) certification: Preferred Facility Specific Licenses/Certifications
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification: Required Certified Surgical Technologist (CST): Required
Essential Functions
