Job Summary: Masters prepared specialty anesthesiologist assistant working under the direction of a licensed anesthesiologist. Administers anesthesia protocols to patients and follows up on after care. The supervising anesthesiologist shall, at all times, be accountable for the activities of the anesthesiologist assistant. Limited to select locations based on unique workplace dynamics. Responsibilities
Administers anesthesia under the medical direction of an anesthesiologist. Administers the prescribed anesthetic with particular care to the cardiovascular, respiratory and metabolic health of the patient. Utilizes advanced treatment modalities to effect section 1.1 responsibilities, including but not limited to advanced airway interventions and intubation of the trachea; starting and adjusting doses of vasoactive infusions; administering vasoactive and anesthetic drugs; administering blood; and any other treatment modalities prescribed by the supervising anesthesiologist. Consults with supervising anesthesiologist for the induction of anesthesia, for extubation of the trachea, unexpected or adverse perioperative events, or whenever the prescribed anesthetic deviates significantly from its expected course. Establishes a comprehensive patient database (by chart/medical record review and patient examination and interview) to help in anesthetic planning. Orders appropriate pre-op evaluations and pre-medications after consultation with the anesthesiologist, who is then responsible for these orders. Develops a patient-focused culture that promotes the BEST Patient Care. Initiates multi-parameter monitoring before anesthesia or in other acute care settings. Modalities include, but are not limited to, ASA Standard Monitors, arterial and venous catheters. Accurately manipulates and interprets data from central venous, pulmonary artery and intracranial catheters and other monitors or devices that are indicated. Helps in the post-operative management of patients. Manages post-op ventilator support and acute pain management in conjunction with existing protocols or the attending anesthesiologist. Benefits
