The Division of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center is recruiting a Clinical Pathology faculty member to lead the Diagnostic Infectious Diseases Testing Laboratory, a section of the central clinical laboratory. The Director will oversee the technical operations of the bacteriology, virology, mycology, and parasitology areas, collaboratively oversee infectious disease serology, and provide consultative services for clinicians in all infectious disease laboratory testing areas. Activities of the Diagnostic Infectious Diseases Testing Laboratory include routine testing across all sub-disciplines of microbiology, involvement in the institution’s Antimicrobial Stewardship Program, and the implementation of advanced molecular platforms to enhance sensitivity and specificity while reducing turnaround times for critical pediatric infectious diseases, including sepsis diagnosis, antimicrobial susceptibility testing, and the detection of STIs. The central clinical laboratory includes integrated sections in Chemistry, Blood Bank, Hematology, and Immunology and performs over 4 million annual tests. The Director will work closely with four other Clinical Pathology faculty colleagues, along with administrative and operational staff to ensure high-quality service and compliance with CAP standards and governmental regulations, provide consultative service and communication, and advance research and development related to laboratory testing. The Clinical Pathology faculty are part of the Division led by Dr. Sarangarajan Ranganathan and form a team with Anatomic Pathology counterparts. Responsibilities
Lead and manage the Diagnostic Infectious Diseases Testing Laboratory, overseeing bacteriology, virology, mycology, and parasitology operations. Collaborate on infectious disease serology and provide consultative services to clinicians. Ensure compliance with CAP standards and governmental regulations; maintain high-quality laboratory services. Advance research and development related to laboratory testing; support teaching and education programs. Engage with antimicrobial stewardship initiatives and implement advanced molecular platforms to improve sensitivity, specificity, and turnaround times. Support education for medical students, residents, fellows, and laboratory staff; contribute to an educational program within the department. Qualifications
Board-certified Clinical Microbiologist with fellowship training in Medical Microbiology. At least three years of clinical laboratory leadership experience preferred; well-qualified fellowship graduates will be considered. PhD or MD/DO considered; MD/DO candidates must be eligible for an Ohio medical license. Ability to support all sub-disciplines of Microbiology; experience in susceptibility testing, laboratory automation, pediatric laboratory medicine, molecular diagnostics, and BSL-3 operations preferred. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills; strong collaborative approach across divisions and departments.
