Overview
Medical Science Liaison, Neuroscience (Migraine) role at Ipsen. The MSL is a field-based scientific medical expert within Ipsen’s U.S. Medical Affairs Neuroscience team. This role engages with national and regional Thought Leaders, Investigators, and Healthcare Providers to exchange scientific insights, support clinical research, and facilitate clinical trial efforts and Investigator-Sponsored Studies (ISS). The MSL delivers non-promotional, evidence-based information on Ipsen’s marketed and pipeline therapies, aims to improve patient outcomes, and collaborates with U.S. Medical Affairs, Clinical Development, and Commercial teams to address scientific and technical needs. This is a field-based position covering the West Territory; Chicago is preferred but other locations near a major airport may be considered.
Responsibilities
Identify, gain access to, and develop peer-to-peer relationships with regional and national thought leaders, investigators, providers at academic and non-academic institutions, and professional organizations within the assigned geography.
Demonstrate and maintain deep scientific expertise on Ipsen products and the therapeutic area, including the competitive landscape and gaps in patient care.
Engage in ongoing scientific exchange about the science and clinical application of Ipsen’s portfolio to external stakeholders to gather insights on current practice, treatment landscapes, and emerging data.
Assist with Company Sponsored Studies (CSS), including investigator/site identification, site initiation visits, education to support enrollment, and feedback on operational management to optimize site selection and performance.
Partner with Medical Affairs and Medical Information to ensure accurate delivery of medical information; respond to on- and off-label questions with integrity and regulatory compliance.
Represent Ipsen and the US Medical Affairs Team at scientific conferences, continuing medical education events, and medical meetings.
Respond to unsolicited requests regarding interest in ISS and support ISS submissions, initiation and closure through internal processes.
Lead the development and implementation of a regional territory plan.
Train and facilitate speakers on Ipsen’s products.
Balance all work to enhance performance and execute local medical strategies within planned timelines.
Engage in continuous independent learning within the therapeutic area and participate in upskilling programs related to Ipsen molecules, products, disease states, and relevant business topics.
Differentiate Ipsen as a valued scientific partner through innovative initiatives, coordinated strategy, scientific communication, and patient centricity.
Build and maintain close working relationships with US cross-functional teams while ensuring compliance with company, industry, legal, and regulatory requirements.
Support cross-functional teams to ensure operations are patient-focused and respond to internal/external requests for medical affairs support.
Knowledge & Experience (essential)
4+ years of related MSL experience.
Previous Neurology, Pain, Migraine/Headache experience.
Knowledge of Neurology, Pain, Migraine/Headache customer segments and market dynamics.
Excellent planning, presentation, written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to develop and maintain credible scientific relationships with top experts.
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to function on a cross-functional team.
Ability to synthesize and clearly communicate medical information.
Knowledge of PhRMA, OIG and other guidelines related to compliant medical communications.
Knowledge of rare disease customer segments and market dynamics.
Understanding of clinical research and strong project management abilities.
Strong collaboration and leadership capabilities; ability to travel 50-70% depending on geography.
Experience with product launches and lifecycle management.
Knowledge & Experience (preferred)
Previous Neuro Rehab or movement disorder experience is preferred.
Education / Certifications (essential)
Doctoral level in the sciences required (MD, DO, PhD, PharmD, Nursing or equivalent).
Language(s) (essential)
Fluent in English.
