As a Back-End Engineer, you’ll play a key role in building and optimizing the core services that power our APA platform. You\'ll collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop scalable APIs, data processing pipelines, and backend infrastructure that enable AI-powered agents and human users to work in harmony. This is a hybrid role with regular onsite workdays in our San Jose, CA office strongly preferred. Other locations in the U.S. will be considered. Reporting
Who You’ll Report To:
Director of Engineering, AI Agent Studio Your Responsibilities
Building robust REST APIs, services, and backend infrastructure to support business applications Working cross-functionally with Front-End Engineers, Product Managers, QA, and Support teams to deliver end-to-end features Writing clean, maintainable, and scalable code. Participating in design and code reviews to uphold engineering excellence Identifying bottlenecks and improving the performance, reliability, and scalability of existing systems Recommending and adopting modern backend technologies, frameworks, and processes to improve development speed and maintainability Sharing best practices and supporting junior developers through guidance and reviews Qualifications
4+ years of experience in back-end development Proficient in Java and one or more server-side languages/frameworks (e.g., Node.js, Python) Strong knowledge of RESTful API design and microservices Strong experience with Spring framework, including REST APIs, security, data access, and configuration Experience with relational and NoSQL databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, SQL Server, Elasticsearch) Exposure to message brokers like Kafka or ActiveMQ Understanding of client-server model, authentication, and authorization Familiarity with CI/CD, containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) Experience with automation tools, observability stacks, or security best practices a plus Key Competencies
System Architecture & Scalability – designing robust, scalable backend systems API Design & Integration – building secure, high-performance APIs Performance & Reliability Engineering – identifying bottlenecks and ensuring observable, resilient services Security & Data Integrity – secure coding practices and data governance Collaboration & Engineering Leadership – strong communicator and mentor Compensation & Benefits
