What You Can Expect
As a Senior Data Scientist – Global Market Analysis (GMA) at ENGIE Energy Marketing North America (EEMNA), you will advance electricity market forecasting across timescales and regional markets. GMA supports ENGIE’s trading, risk, and strategy by modeling hundreds of millions of data points daily through hybrid AI and physical system modeling. Your work will influence trading decisions and operational strategies in dynamic power markets such as PJM, SPP, and CAISO. This is a high-impact, fast-paced role requiring both technical depth and creative problem-solving. You’ll collaborate with the Head of Market Analysis, traders, and fellow data scientists to enhance the performance, robustness, and scalability of our forecasting platform. The ideal candidate brings strong analytical skills, a deep understanding of physical systems and machine learning, and a team-oriented mindset. Reporting to the Head of Market Analysis, your roles and responsibilities include:
Analyze, experiment, develop models, and evaluate models to help the company gather business intelligence and predict electricity prices
Work directly with trading teams and the Head of Market Analysis to create evaluation methodologies and assess forecast quality for trading signals
Collaborate to expand forecasting capabilities across timescales and U.S. markets including PJM, SPP, and CAISO
Use data analysis to identify areas for improvement of probabilistic price forecasts and design experiments to improve modeling efforts
Work with the development team to produce production-level code to backtest and run models at scale in the cloud
Combine physical models with statistics and AI to create compute-efficient yet robust models for extreme events and changing systems
Contribute to internal ML pipeline and physical model development using Python and in-house libraries
What You’ll Bring Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in a Science, Engineering, or Mathematics field
At least ten (10) years of experience as a Data Scientist or similar role
Proficiency with linear algebra and machine learning
Proficiency with correlated uncertainty quantification and statistical analysis
Proficiency with probabilistic thinking and evaluation
Proficiency in Python (or similar) and SQL (or similar)
Ability to combine theory and data to develop experiment-driven methodologies
Ability to articulate experimentation methods, results, and conclusions clearly
Additional Details This role is eligible for our hybrid work policy in Houston, TX; Chicago, IL; and Broomfield, CO. For highly qualified candidates based in Pittsburgh, PA, a fully remote arrangement may be considered with travel to the Houston office at least once per month
Domestic travel up to 15% of the time, with some overnight trips
Must be willing to comply with ENGIE ethics and safety policies
Compensation
Salary Range:
$131,000 – $200,790 USD annually This represents the average expected pay range for a qualified candidate. ENGIE complies with applicable wage laws. Actual salary offered may vary by geography, experience, education, internal pay alignment, or other factors. In addition to base pay, this position is eligible for a competitive bonus/incentive plan. Your Talent Acquisition Partner can share more specifics based on work location.
