Overview
Boston Harbor City Cruises is seeking an Assistant Port Engineer for our Boston Harbor operations. The Assistant Port Engineer will report directly to the Port Engineer in Boston. Responsibilities
Help monitor the preventative maintenance program for the group of vessels they are responsible for. Alert Port Engineer to the machinery or vessel systems in need of repair. Perform and be responsible for much of the preventative maintenance and repair work as directed by the Port Engineer. Perform preventative engine maintenance such as machinery oil and filter changes, including but not limited to diesel engines and generators, water jet propulsion equipment, and marine reduction gears. Perform engine and generator heavy maintenance such as valve timings, injector changes, cylinder head and liner changes. Overhaul water jets including jet hubs, cylinders, impellers and pumps. Repair vessel piping and plumbing to pipes, valves, tanks, and pumps, large and small. Rig machinery in and out of the vessel for major repairs and new installations. Diagnose and repair low and high voltage electrical systems, including generators, motors, control systems, sensors, and related wiring. Conduct drydock repairs to vessel drivelines, water jets, couplings, shafts and propellers. Document and monitor maintenance and repair work through the company web-based Wheelhouse program. Additional duties as assigned. Qualifications
Training from a maritime academy or a machinery trade school, plus relevant experience. 3–5 years of experience on diesel vessels or closely related machinery systems. Familiarity with motor vessels, diesel engines and their operational support systems. Experience with piping, electrical components, vessel drive trains, shafts, reduction gears, hydraulics and water jet support systems. A merchant mariner marine engineer’s license is desired but not required. Shore-side position; must live within commutable distance. Ability to work a flexible schedule, including some weekends, early mornings, or evenings as needed. Physically fit for work in tight engine room areas where machinery is heavy. About Us
