Overview Accounting Director plays a critical operational role in aligning financial strategy with business objectives across the organization, working in close collaboration with the VP of Finance to deliver timely, accurate financial data, variance analyses, and executive-ready reporting that supports strategic decision-making. Leading all facets of accounting operations, the Accounting Director oversees financial reporting, process optimization, internal controls, and regulatory compliance. Key responsibilities span accounts receivable and payable, fixed assets, payroll reporting, and inventory accounting.

Base pay range $165,000.00/yr - $185,000.00/yr

Responsibilities

Financial Reporting: Oversee accurate and timely preparation of financial statements in accordance with IFRS and GAAP, providing key metrics and insights to support decision-making. Prepare monthly reporting packages, KPI dashboards, and variance schedules for review by the VP of Finance and senior leadership

Internal Controls: Establish and maintain robust internal control systems to ensure the integrity and accuracy of financial data and compliance with policies

Audit & Compliance: Manage external audit relationships and ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements, including J-SOX, tax filings, and state/federal reporting

Process Optimization: Identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes and leverage technology to drive efficiency and accuracy

Accounting Operations (Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Record to Report):

Accounts Receivable: Own invoicing, credit limit control, cash collections and application, and monthly AR aging review

Accounts Payable: Oversee AP processing, vendor onboarding, payment run approvals. Enforce the approval matrix and payment controls. Administer sales-commission calculations, accruals, and reconciliations

Fixed Assets: Own the fixed asset policy. Review additions, transfers, and disposals. Review fixed-asset transactions in line with capitalization policy

Payroll Reporting: Review payroll reports and journal entries

Inventory Accounting: Oversee inventory valuation and costing, reserves for slow moving and obsolete items

Team Leadership & Development

Team Management: Lead and mentor a team of accounting professionals, cultivating a culture of excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement

Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with departments such as Operations, Engineering, and Sales to ensure financial alignment and visibility

ERP Implementation & Systems: Oversee accounting systems and drive improvements and implementations, including ERP upgrades or transitions.

Cross-Functional Responsibilities

Business Partnership: Collaborate with department leaders to provide financial insight and support strategic decision-making

Operational Support: Partner with supply chain, manufacturing, and engineering to ensure cost efficiencies and financial accountability

Sales & Revenue: Work closely with the Sales team to analyze revenue trends, pricing impacts, and forecasting accuracy

Strategic Initiatives

Sustainability & ESG: Contribute financial perspective to sustainability initiatives and environmental reporting

Technology Adoption: Champion digital transformation efforts within the Finance function to increase agility and accuracy

Reporting Structure

Reports to: Executive Vice-President

Direct Reports: Sr. Accountant, Accountant (3), Accountant in China (2)

Key Interfaces: VP of Finance, Operations, Sales, Engineering, Human Resources

Desired Skills & Experience

Education: Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field. CPA certification is strongly preferred

Experience: 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership roles. Experience in a manufacturing or high-tech environment preferred

Skills: Deep understanding of IFRS, financial reporting, and compliance. Demonstrated expertise in process optimization

Technology: Proficiency in ERP systems (especially Microsoft GP), financial planning tools, and Excel. Experience with automation and reporting platforms a plus

Compensation & Benefits Compensation Range | $165,000 - $185,000 annually + annual bonus

This position is eligible for experience specific compensation ranges based on candidate experience, compensation will be aligned and determined based on this criteria. Fluctuations in the job market may necessitate adjustments to pay ranges. Final pay determinations will depend on various factors, including, but not limited to experience levels, knowledge, skills, and abilities.
