NI-Physician, Gastroenterology Hospitalist — UW Health SwedishAmerican, Rockford, Illinois. BE/BC Gastroenterologist sought to join our community practice to help build a leading digestive health program serving a growing community with a primary market of 350,000 and a secondary market of more than 750,000. Responsibilities
Inpatient GI consults: Evaluate and manage hospitalized patients with gastrointestinal, hepatic, and pancreatic diseases; provide timely consultation services to hospitalists, surgeons, and other specialists. Endoscopic procedures: Perform inpatient diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures, including upper endoscopy (EGD), colonoscopy, ERCP (if trained), sigmoidoscopy, paracentesis, and PEG tube placement. Acute GI case management: Manage urgent GI conditions such as GI bleeding, acute pancreatitis, severe inflammatory bowel disease flares, biliary obstruction, and hepatic encephalopathy. Coordination of care: Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (hospitalists, intensivists, surgeons, nutritionists) and coordinate post-discharge GI care and follow-up. Documentation and compliance: Document consults, procedures, and patient progress in the electronic medical record; ensure adherence to hospital policies and infection control standards. Weekend and on-call coverage: Provide GI coverage during nights, weekends, or holidays as part of a call rotation. Qualifications
MD or DO; Board Certified or Board Eligible in Gastroenterology Active Illinois medical license and DEA license, or ability to secure these prior to hire Benefits
