Pharmacy Operations Manager

Perform day-to-day non-clinical pharmacy operations and administrative activities where state and federal laws/regulations allow; ensure efficient pharmacy workflow and a positive patient experience. Serve as a full-time certified pharmacy technician where applicable. Operate pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions. Under the supervision of a pharmacist, supervise pharmacy technicians and pharmacy cashiers in line with company policies, laws, regulations, and business ethics. Lead the selection, scheduling, and development of pharmacy technician personnel. Coach and manage performance; make decisions regarding discipline and termination. Engage customers and patients by greeting them, assisting with products and services, resolving complaints, and responding to non-clinical questions to ensure a positive customer experience. Develop strong customer relationships by anticipating needs and offering services to enhance the pharmacy experience and healthcare services focus. Assist the pharmacist in patient care activities, including patient registration, prescription data entry, preparation of medications, counting, and verification where allowed by law; conduct patient and physician calls under pharmacist supervision; participate in healthcare services such as vaccines and health screenings where permitted by law. Delegate, direct, and assign non-clinical work in the pharmacy per company policies and applicable laws; ensure on-time task completion and maintain efficient workflow. Prepare and file reports and records required by the company and government agencies as directed by the Pharmacy Manager or pharmacist. Manage core pharmacy workflow, organize daily activities, and ensure the pharmacy is clean, stocked, and properly equipped. Ensure compliance and execution of business administrative activities and inventory management that do not require licensure; manage annual inventory preparation. Drive new technology/process rollouts, lead change initiatives, and engage the team in action planning; maintain security safeguards and proper recordkeeping for the pharmacy department. Adhere to Good Faith Dispensing policies during dispensing activities and ensure elements of Good Faith Dispensing are met. Support asset protection and diversion monitoring; report concerns to the Pharmacy Manager. Communicate prescription errors to the accountable pharmacist and follow company policies and Continuous Quality Improvement procedures. Ensure accurate processing of insurance claims, resolve customer issues, and participate in or conduct 3rd party audits. Assist Store Manager and Pharmacy Manager in analyzing and improving pharmacy financials, operational quality, and customer service. Manage Community Outreach Portal and coordinate pharmacists for off-site immunization clinics and community events; build and sustain relationships with retail partners. People & Performance Management
Lead performance management of technicians, including decisions on discipline and termination; follow policy for disciplinary actions and ensure compliance with laws; hold technicians accountable for attendance and timeliness; promote engagement and performance through planning. Oversee technician hiring, onboarding, training, and scheduling; monitor training completion and follow policy for scheduling and training. Identify gaps in pharmacy operations knowledge and support team members through hands-on training or learning modules. Monitor licensures, registrations, and certifications to ensure they are active and compliant; document status using available verification resources. Ensure proper procedures for selection, recruitment, record retention, and training per policy and law. Training & Personal Development
Maintain PTCB certification or state-required certifications; pursue ongoing professional development and certifications required by the company. Engage in continuous learning through certifications, education credits, and training such as LTMP modules; follow performance improvement plans as directed. Seek feedback and mentor relationships to support growth. Communication
Communicate with the pharmacy team and relay messages from support centers or other emails as required. Participate in store/pharmacy meetings, including regular briefings and weekly check-ins with the Store Manager. Basic Qualifications
High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent. PTCB or ExCPT certification (except in Puerto Rico). One year of work experience as a pharmacy technician in retail or hospital settings. Fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English (except in Puerto Rico). Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends. Willingness to obtain active immunization certification within 90 days of hire (participation varies by location). Preferred Qualifications
Previous people management/leadership experience. Previous Walgreens experience with a record of exceeding expectations on performance evaluations. Salary information: The current salary range for this position is $22.50 per hour - $31.00 per hour. The actual offer depends on geography, skills, education, experience, and other factors.
